Danny Dyer left This Morning hosts Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley in hysterics after he slammed John Torode’s peas for being ‘a bit hard’.

The actor and presenter, 46, was a guest on the ITV morning show on Thursday to promote his appearance on Sunday’s The Great Celebrity Bake Off.

Before being interviewed about his baking antics, Danny was invited up to taste Master Chef judge John’s spring roast chicken with new potatoes and frozen peas.

But the EastEnders star was less than impressed with the one-tray meal, turning his nose up John’s ‘Al Dente’ vegetables.

‘Peas are a bit hard,’ Danny says, as he tries a mouthful of the vegetables in a creme fraiche sauce, at which point Cat, 47, bursts out laughing.

‘And that’s coming from Danny Dyer “The peas are a bit hard”,’ the former Stars In Their Eyes presenter saying, to which Danny replies: ‘I’m a baker now aren’t I.’

‘I like a bit of an Al Dente pea,’ retorts Ben, 49, before adding ‘There is a bit of a crunch in it.’

Clearly offended by pea-gate, John, 58, asks: ‘What do you mean the peas are hard?’

‘Have a bang on one of them peas,’ Danny says, gesturing to the tray of potatoes and sauce. ‘Honestly.’

‘They’re perfect,’ John replies in defence of his meal, as he tries the peas himself. ‘I like a mushy pea yeah,’ Danny says.

Ben adds: ‘I love that sauce,’ before gesturing to Danny and saying ‘With the sauce?’

‘Not for me,’ Danny snaps, before catching John’s annoyed expression and claiming it was a joke.

‘You can take the boy out of the East End, but you can’t take the East End out of the boy,’ Ben says.

Later on the show, Danny revealed that he told his co-stars on The Great Celebrity Bake Off about a DIY mishap which left him trapped in a wardrobe.

Danny admitted he once had to smash his way out of a wardrobe after he accidentally built it around himself.

He recalled his DIY fail on the charity special of the ITV baking show when stars were asked to recreate their biggest failure as a cake.

‘I had a child young and tried to build a wardrobe,’ he explained. ‘But I built myself into it. I had to punch the back of it to get out. My missus still mocks me to this day.’

The actor has been dating his wife Joanne Mas since the ’90s and their eldest child Dani Dyer was born when Danny was just 19.

Danny made the wardrobe from vanilla sponge for the special episode, part of the Stand Up To Cancer charity special on Channel 4 on Sunday.

He also hid a fondant model of himself holding a hammer in the centre for judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood to find.
