Gene Simmons Reveals Richie Sambora Chose BON JOVI Over KISS

Gene Simmons, a towering figure in the rock world and a notable producer behind the scenes, holds a significant legacy for discovering and launching acts like Van Halen. Beyond his public persona, Simmons played a pivotal role in providing a platform for budding talents who nearly joined KISS, thereby introducing them to the rock stage.

During an appearance on the ‘Your Mom’s House’ podcast with Christina P. and Tom Segura, Gene disclosed that amidst KISS’ illustrious career, Ritchie Sambora underwent auditions for potential inclusion in the band. Furthermore, he revealed that notable musicians such as Slash and Lenny Kravitz also tested the waters with KISS.

In a 2016 interview, Ritchie Sambora shared insights into his experience with the band. According to Sambora, he never harbored a strong desire to join KISS. He remarked:

“I didn’t really know what I was doing back then, and I didn’t really want the gig. They wanted someone to replace Ace, but I think they wanted someone who worshipped them. I liked their music – but I wasn’t into them in a big way.”

It appears that Sambora made a conscious decision to align himself with Bon Jovi, following his own preferences and instincts.
