2024 will certainly be a year of premieres. From new Marvel installments, to book adaptations, to even biographical films, a genre that has been gaining much more strength in recent years.

Precisely the new biographical film of Michael Jackson , starring Jaafar Jackson, will join this last repertoire in April 2025 under the title Michael.

Lionsgate was the production company in charge of breaking the news. Through an official statement, he announced that the film will be released in the US on April 18, 2025, and Universal will later handle distribution abroad.

On the other hand, this will be produced by Graham King , of Bohemian Rhapsody, and written by John Logan. According to the synopsis, the film will give audiences a fascinating and honest interpretation of the brilliant but complicated man who became the King of Pop. The film presents his triumphs and tragedies on an epic cinematic scale, from his human side and his personal struggles to his undeniable creative genius, exemplified by his most iconic performances. Like never before, audiences will experience an inside look at one of the most influential and pioneering artists the world has ever known.”

Faced with this, Adam Fogelson, president of Lionsgate, said in an official statement: “Michael Jackson was without a doubt one of the greatest artists of all time. “His impact on music, video, art, fashion, culture was extraordinary and remains deeply relevant.”

But to be able to tell a great story you need someone who can embody the protagonist in every sense, and this time the person in charge will be Jaafar Jackson, Michael Jackson’s nephew, who won the lead role in early 2023. The singer and songwriter is the son by former Jackson 5 member and solo artist Jermaine Jackson.

As for direction, Antoine Fuqua, responsible for directing films such as The Equializer and Emancipation, will be in charge of carrying out this project.

Elsewhere, those involved in the production include Oscar-winning director of photography Dion Beebe, production designer Barbara Ling, costume designer Marci Rodgers, choreographers Rich + Tone, Oscar-winning makeup artist Bill Corso, Oscar-nominated stylist Carla Farmer, Oscar-winning sound and music supervisor John Warhurst and visual effects supervisor Louis Morin, along with a team of more than 420 people.
