Rob Halford Confirms His Solo Blues Record Is Almost Ready To Release

During a recent chat with Germany’s Rock Antenne, Rob Halford revealed his debut blues solo album is almost complete.

The frontman discussed his upcoming blues solo project:

“You may have heard occasionally here and there that I’ve had this ambition at least to make a blues album. Because metal, all rock and roll comes from the blues; everything in music comes from the blues to a great extent. And so, because I’m a blues fan, I’ve always wanted to explore that territory. And so, going back a few years, my brother and my nephew Alex, Ian Hill’s son on bass, and a friend of ours, we did the ‘Celestial’ Christmas album together.”

The Music Is A Question Of Timing

He continued, sharing more about the record:

“And then, towards the end of those sessions, I said to the guys, ‘Why don’t we just make a blues album?’ Okay, that’s a simple idea, isn’t it? So we have the music ready, we have all of these songs ready to go, and it’s just about timing. Timing and planning is so important in our world, in music. So that’s one thing I would really like to do, and when I get the time to do it, I shall do it.”

The Singer Pays Homage To Blues Legends

In a chat with New York’s 102.3 WBAB radio station two years ago, Halford shared his inspiration for the blues album:

“I love the blues. Without the blues, we wouldn’t have rock and roll. The blues was born here in the United States and then slowly mutated into all these incredible styles and different dynamics and variations. Man, I think back to those originators, like Little Richard, Bill Haley, the anchor of the blues like Howlin’ Wolf, Muddy Waters, Bessie Smith, all these great people. So I was listening to those great performers as I was growing up as a kid. I love the blues, man. And I think most metal musicians would acknowledge the blues for playing such an important role.”

There are no other details on the album’s release date. Halford also has ongoing commitments with Judas Priest. The band’s latest album, ‘Invincible Shield,’ arrived in March 2024. They are currently on a European tour to promote the record.
