Travis Barker Recalls Taylor Hawkins Calling Him A ‘Star’ In His Farewell Message

Blink-182’s Travis Barker took his Instagram account and shared a farewell message to Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, who passed away on March 25. Barker remembered the old times they would hang out together, and Hawkins would call him a ‘star.’

Influenced by Stewart Copeland, Phil Collins, and Roger Taylor, Hawkins stepped into his music career with the local band, Sylvia. He became the drummer for Sass Jordan and then Alanis Morrissette on her tour. At the time, Foo Fighters started to have conflicts with their then-drummer William Goldsmith, which resulted in him leaving the band. Foo Fighters wasn’t a big act back then, but Taylor Hawkins still wanted to join the band rather than continuing as a solo artist.

The drummer contributed to nine Foo Fighters albums and was on tour with the band. Unfortunately, Foo Fighters recently issued a statement in their official Twitter account and confirmed that Taylor Hawkins died at 50. The surviving members sent their condolences to Hawkins’ family and asked for privacy from the fans in their message. The cause of his death has not been revealed yet.

Shortly after the heartbreaking news, many artists shared tributes to the late drummer. Blink-182’s Travis Barker also shared a farewell message on Instagram and wrote that he feels very sad never to see him again. He talked about their long-term friendship that started while Hawkins played for Alanis Morrissette. Barker recalled that Taylor Hawkins would watch him playing and call him a ‘star’ back then. The drummer revealed that Hawkins’ words gave him the determination to do much better.

Travis Barker’s farewell message to Taylor Hawkins:

“I don’t have the words. Sad to write this or to never see you again. I’ll never forget Laguna Beach days when I was a trash man playing in a punk rock band, and you were playing with Alanis. You’d come to watch me play in dive bars and be like, ‘Kid, you’re a star.’ And I thought you were crazy, but you gave me so much hope and determination.

Years later, we toured together with Blink and Foo’s in Australia, and I have the best memories of smoking cigarettes in the restroom of flights we were on together and watching your set every night. To say I’ll miss you, my friend, isn’t enough. Till the next time, we talk drums and smoke in the boys’ room. Rest in peace.”
