Tyson says why Mayweather was never boxing’s greatest

Mike Tyson has always been likened to a boxing historian and often pays homage to legends who came before him.

Having a career that is universally acclaimed, and currently a boxing legend, Mike Tyson is still annoyed when someone shows disdain for boxing legends.

After ending his boxing career, Floyd Mayweather called himself the “GOAT” Boxing (best puncher ever). The statement of the “Defeated Girl” comes from an absolute winning record of 50 professional fights, surpassing former world heavyweight champion Rocky Marciano, who retired with 49 wins.

Tyson disagrees with Mayweather’s logic and made this clear on the Hotboxin podcast. “Floyd is a great fighter, but don’t get me wrong. Listen, Sugar Ray Robinson had 40 wins at the start of his career. Then he lost 1 game but followed up with 78 wins in a row. Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. had 87 wins before the draw. Don’t tell me someone is ‘the greatest fighter’ with 50 wins.”

Mike continued: “Floyd is very good, no doubt about it, but proud of a 50-game winning record? Chavez had a 90-point unbeaten run (89 wins, 1 draw) before losing. How aggressive has he been? 8 games 1 year? Compete against any opponent in the same weight class. He doesn’t choose his opponent, he wants his opponent to choose him.”

According to a report from the Washington Post, Tyson will likely fight again and fight MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko in Saudi Arabia in 2024. This is a fight that boxing and MMA fans are looking forward to soon.
