Britney Spears and Selena Gomez have a lot in common. For starters, both women started on the Disney Channel. Spears famously starred in The New Mickey Mouse Club with the likes of Justin Timberlake, Ryan Gosling, and Christina Aguilera.

Gomez had a starring role on the popular Disney Channel sitcom Wizards of Waverly Place. The show premiered in 2007 and lasted four seasons. This is what led her to start making music with Selena Gomez & the Scene. Before eventually going solo, she lent her acting talents to several films, including Another Cinderella Story.

It’s not difficult to see why these two stars would have a connection. Gomez was a guest at Spears’ wedding and the pop star praised her on social media. However, there have also been rumors of a falling out between the two.

Britney Confused Fans By Praising Selena And Her Mother In An Instagram Post

Spears is without question the Princess of Pop. She has paved the way for someone like Gomez to have a career. In 2022, Spears posted a photo of Gomez to her Instagram account and raved about the singer. Spears revealed that she wasn’t expecting Gomez to attend her wedding and was surprised.

“She told me “I just want you to be happy” three times,” Spears wrote. “My mother does that as well. It was so cool she was able to get to me and share her thoughts.”

Spears went on to say how Gomez is a refreshing presence after all that she had to deal with in her career.

“Although I’ve been forced to see people against my will my whole life, she was a beautiful surprise!!! I appreciate ALL the mental health speeches she does for our generation.”

Even though Spears’ post delighted fans of the two pop stars, an aspect of it confused some of Spears’ supporters. Spears spoke highly of her mother, Lynne, referencing a recent moment when her mother was questioned about the wedding by the paparazzi. Following the termination of her conservatorship, Spears had not been on good terms with her mother.

Britney Spears has made no secret of her love for Selena Gomez and it was on full display in a new Instagram post.

“My mom was asked by the paparazzi 3 times on the street “How does your daughter feel about your response to her wedding” … she said all she wanted for me was to be happy!!!” Spears wrote. “Mom and Selena, I’m so happy to have such a supportive family !!! God bless you.”

Selena Opened Up About Her Experience At Britney’s Wedding

Gomez was a guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live in 2022 where the host asked her about her experience at Spears’ wedding.

The host began by holding up a picture of Gomez with Spears as well as Donatella Versace, Paris Hilton, Madonna and Drew Barrymore.

“A Thursday wedding … doesn’t that usually indicate that the bride and groom are trying to get a discount?” Kimmel joked.

“I wouldn’t know!” Gomez laughed before explaining to the audience who each of the women were in the photo with her. She got to Spears’ name last, referring to her as “The woman herself, Ms. Britney Spears.”

Britney Spears actually lost money when she sold her Calabasas property.

“I am really happy for her, it was beautiful,” Gomez gushed. She also told Kimmel that Spears and Asghari served “finger foods” to guests at the reception.

Later that year, Spears posted a caption on her Instagram which many interpreted to be about Gomez. Many thought Spears was referencing a speech Gomez gave at the 2016 American Music Awards where she encouraged women not to show as much skin on Instagram.

“Don’t you just love the nerve of women who stand firmly getting awards and speak on their beliefs about not showing their bodies on instagram ???!!!!!” Spears wrote in a since-deleted caption. “They say ‘This is NOT something I would do’ yet those women are the very ones who get 4 million dollar budget videos made about sucking and licking on homemade ice cream!!!!”

People speculated that Spears was also referencing Gomez’s video for the song “Ice Cream” with Blackpink.

Spears later clarified that she had no bad feelings toward Gomez.

“Let me clarify about me sharing my beliefs on women judging other women for their own rights in expressing themselves,” Spears wrote. “What I said had nothing to do with anyone specific at all … it was clearly a subject in hand all women have had to deal with … look I go way back with music !!! I honestly referencing my days when I was younger when I got discriminated against harshly … men in interviews discussing my boobs on live TV or showing my midriff and skin !!! If anybody knows what judgment feels like I’m sure Selena has gone through something pretty similar.”

She then explained the “ice cream” comment was a reference to Kelis’ 2004 video for her hit “Milkshake.”

Spears also reflected on Gomez attending her wedding and the wonderful time they had together.

“As for the beautiful queen Gomez, I got to be surprised by her on my wedding day and was completely in awe of her !!!” Spears wrote. “I mean I played the DJ for 5 minutes like an idiot and played my favorite song of hers, ‘Bad Liar’ LOUD on the dance floor like a 6-year-old fan and got to sing my favorite song with her and I wanted to freaking pinch myself!!!”

One of the pop princesses videos was revised after MTV obtained the original version.

“I would like to tell Selena which she’s probably not even aware of trash news that her music has gotten me through lots and thank you again for making my dreams come true by coming to my wedding … you’re one person I have always wanted to meet and my dream came true and I will never forget it !!!”
