21 Years Ago Eminem Won The First Hip Hop Oscar In Hip Hop History

The 21st anniversary of a genuinely legendary event in hip-hop history—Eminem’s Oscar victory for the song “Lose Yourself” from the motion picture “8 Mile”—occurs on March 23rd. This was not your average award. The rap song “Lose Yourself” won the Academy Award for Best Original Song, making history. That was a tremendous accomplishment that broke down barriers. Once more, Eminem was the one to open a previously firmly closed door for hip hop.
But that is not where the narrative ends. Shady style, Eminem himself was not present during the ceremony. He chose to spend the day at home with his daughter Hailie, and he supposedly slept through it all. Even though it was unexpected, this move nevertheless went very well with his rebellious persona.

Seventeen years later, in 2020, Marshall turned up at an Oscars ceremony to finally sing the song for the Academy elite and force them to acknowledge a culture that was not given much attention in the past.
