The DOC is ready to present his first work as a filmmaker, a documentary that sheds light on his remarkable career and hip hop giants who have been in his orbit.

Better known by his stage name, the DOC, Tracy Lynn Curry came to prominence in the late ’80s as a rapper in Fila Fresh Crew and then a writer behind N.W.A, Eaze-E and Dr. Dre’s projects. However, soon after his platinum-selling solo album debut, DOC suffered a tragic car crash that resulted in the damaging his larynx, permanently changing his voice.

Nevertheless, DOC has never given up on his career and makes the most of it, running his label, supporting new talents and releasing his music.

Now, he is going to guide any curious viewer through the rich history of hip hop, as seen and written by him. The Tribeca Film festival press-release introduces “The DOC” as “a love letter and inspirational hip hop archive about The D.O.C, a master of the art who is more than likely your favorite rapper’s favorite rapper”.

The DOC has writer’s credits on the project and is also listed as a producer. The list of artists who offered their testimonies to the project is impressive:

By the way, now the photo of Dr. Dre and Eminem with DOC and his daughter Puma, which intrigued the hip hop fans last year, makes more sense.

The documentary will premiere at the Beacon Theatre in New York City on June 10. After the screening, DJ Quik, Das, Kurupt, and surprise guests plan a special birthday performance for The DOC.
