Rapper Eminem Breaks Record, Rapping at 7.5 Syllables per Second

To commemorate his 51st birthday, legendary hip-hop icon Eminem shattered a rap record by rapping at an average of 7.5 syllables per second.

The new record for Eminem’s rap speed comes from his track “Godzilla,” where he managed to spit out 229 words in just 30 seconds, averaging 7.5 syllables per second. This achievement surpasses his previous records for speed in songs like “Majesty” (featuring Nicki Minaj) at 10.3 syllables per second and “Rap God” at 9.6 syllables per second.

In “Rap God,” Eminem squeezed in 1,560 words in a 6-minute 4-second song, averaging 4.28 words per second. With over 25 Guinness World Records to his name, including fastest-selling single and most words in a hit single, Eminem – the stage name of Marshall Bruce Mathers III – is no stranger to breaking records.

The American rapper, songwriter, and record producer began as an underground rapper in Detroit, Michigan, before rising to fame. Born on October 17, 1972, Eminem broke racial barriers for white rappers in the genre.

After releasing his debut album “Infinite” in 1996 and the Slim Shady EP in 1997, Eminem signed with Aftermath Entertainment and achieved massive success in 1999 with “The Slim Shady LP.” His next two albums, “The Marshall Mathers LP” (2000) and “The Eminem Show” (2002), were global successes and both nominated for Grammy Album of the Year.

After a hiatus due to drug addiction following his 2004 album “Encore,” Eminem returned to the music scene with “Relapse” (2009) and “Recovery” (2010), the latter being the best-selling album worldwide in 2010. Eminem continued his success with subsequent albums like “The Marshall Mathers LP 2,” “Revival,” “Kamikaze,” and “Music to Be Murdered By.”

Aside from his solo career, Eminem is a member of the hip-hop group D12 and has collaborated with rapper Royce da 5’9″ as Bad Meets Evil.

Eminem is one of the best-selling music artists of all time, with estimated sales of over 220 million records worldwide. Billboard honored him as the “Artist of the Decade (2000–2009).”

His albums “The Marshall Mathers LP,” “The Eminem Show,” “Lose Yourself,” “Love the Way You Lie,” and “Not Afraid” are all certified Diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

Rolling Stone ranked him among the 100 greatest artists of all time.

As a solo artist, Eminem has had six consecutive number-one albums on the Billboard 200 chart in the United States, from “The Marshall Mathers LP” to “Recovery,” making him the only artist to achieve this feat. All six of his solo albums debuted at number one, making him the artist with the most consecutive number-one albums in the US.

Eminem also holds the record for the most-streamed non-single song on Spotify, with “Till I Collapse” – the 18th track on his fourth studio album – surpassing 1.3 billion streams on Spotify since June 28, 2022.

In 2020, Eminem’s album “Music To Be Murdered By” debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart. At the 92nd Academy Awards in 2020, Eminem surprised audiences with a performance of his Oscar-winning hit from 18 years prior.

According to Billboard, Eminem’s album “Music To Be Murdered By” surged 196 spots (from No. 199 to No. 3). This achievement broke the record for the biggest jump ever recorded. The previous record was held by Bob Dylan’s album “Self Portrait” (1970) – jumping 193 spots from No. 200 to No. 7 on the Billboard 200.

Eminem is said to have the largest vocabulary of any recording artist, and for good reason. According to a music study examining the number of unique words used by some artists, Eminem topped the list with 8,818 unique words used in the lyrics of his top 100 longest songs.

He has won numerous prestigious awards, including 15 Grammy Awards, 8 American Music Awards, 17 Billboard Music Awards, an Oscar, and an MTV Europe Music Icon Award. He has had ten albums top the Billboard 200 chart, making him the only artist to achieve this, and five singles top the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Despite facing competition from talented rappers, many believe that “Rap God” still has the stamina to break records for years to come.
