He pursues a career in financial consulting, signing contracts and coaching teammates who still play for the Miami team, part of the NFL (American football national league). He has strong bonds with friends like Charles Greane (Omar Benson Miller) – a guy who lacks direction in life – and rookie Vernon Littlefield (Donovan W. Carter).

Instead of having invincible strength like in most movies, The Rock’s character in Ballers is haunted by trauma, affecting his mental activities and causing him to have nightmares. However, to outsiders, Spencer still maintains a flashy appearance in conversations. The work has many interesting negotiation scenes such as when Spencer patiently persuaded Vernon to sign the contract. The character also has a dark side when he is sometimes willing to act for his own benefit instead of the players.

Most critics commented that The Rock is a highlight in his acting with his confidence and attractive smile. This image is even close to his real life – a sports and movie star with a lot of business experience, contributing capital and participating in the production of many projects. He also played rugby in the 1990s before switching to wrestling, followed by movies.
