Recently, Forbes magazine honored Cardi B as the most successful female rapper of all time. This is like a bucket of cold water thrown directly at previous generation female rappers, of course Nicki Minaj.

Over the past 10 years, the Pop industry seems to have become familiar with the name and only knows  Nicki Minaj  as the only powerful rap queen. It’s also true because over the past 10 years, the female rap industry has truly been an empty kingdom dominated by Nicki. Sometimes there are still names that emerge like phenomena and then sink, especially Nicki because of her color. Her skin and ability have been recognized by many people, she still stands the longest. 

However, recently, Forbes magazine honored her junior (or it can also be called her nemesis from the next generation)  Cardi B  as the most successful female rapper of all time while Cardi is only Just released 1 studio album. This is no different from a bucket of cold water thrown directly at Nicki Minaj, and even all previous generation female rappers.

According to the original Forbes article: “With the huge achievement of the debut album Invasion Of Privacy, which debuted straight at #1 in the first week on the Billboard Hot 200, it has now been certified 3 times platinum (selling more than 3 million copies). Not to mention the achievements that the single brought her, helping her become the most successful female rapper of all time, which no one can deny when there are 23 songs in the top 40. Cardi B is also a female rapper. first in history to win a Grammy in the Best Rap Album category, also the only female rapper to win a Grammy this decade, and also the most #1 Billboard Hot 100 female rapper in history.

Not only that, Cardi B also changed her career to coaching the new generation of rap in the show Rhythm + Flow on Netflix, and acted in two movies, Hustlers with Jennifer Lopez, Lizzo and the upcoming This will be the main role in the latest season of the blockbuster movie Fast And Furious.” 

Do you agree with Forbes’ tribute to Cardi B?

It’s true that Cardi B has achieved a lot of success with just her debut album, it’s true that we can’t deny that. From an unknown girl in New York, she suddenly became the most powerful rap superstar today with this debut album. However, if Cardi B is honored as the most successful female rap rookie in history, it makes sense. And when she’s the most successful female rapper of all time, it’s too early to comment on that. We haven’t even heard her second studio album yet.

Not only that, Forbes seems to have been too hasty in awarding this title. That seems to be a slight offense to the reigning rap queen Nicki Minaj, or even other powerful women in the rap game right now such as: Lil’ Kim, Missy Elliott, Queen Latifah, Salt’N’ Pepa, TLC, Lauryn Hill,… What happens when a senior who has dedicated himself to paving the way for women in the rap game loses to a girl just starting out? How painful and bitter that must have been.

The title is already missed, we will wait to see what Cardi B will do in her upcoming 2nd studio album. Will this young girl still retain the sky-highly praised quality of her debut album or will she fall like other famous rappers of other times? This question can only be answered until the music comes out. 

By being honored like this, it seems to be a way for Cardi B to focus more on music to be worthy of what the press praises.
