Footballing icon David Beckham has picked his favourite pair of Adidas Predator boots after spending his entire career wearing them.

Other than remembering his exceptional career, you usually associate Beckham with his iconic free-kicks, his multiple hair styles and of course, his skills. But he wore varieties of the Adidas Predator boot throughout his whole career, during spells at Manchester United, Real Madrid, AC Milan, La Galaxy and Paris Saint Germain.

Beckham inspired a generation of Adidas wearing footballers, and even revealed how he helped change how their boots were manufactured. And after wearing hundreds of different types, Beckham picked the black boot he wore during United’s 1999 treble winning season as his all-time favourite.

The iconic black Predators with the white stripe was an easy favourite for Beckham, and they were the boots he wore when assisting both Teddy Sheringham and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the last minute against Bayern Munich to win the European Cup. It’s one of the most memorable finals as United stunned the German side in the dying moments, completing the treble.

Beckham ranked his favourite boots in a video with Complex, and when picking the 1999 version he said: “They’re all my babies and it’s kind of hard. It’s like someone turning around asking ‘Who’s your favourite child?’

“But this boot brings back such great memories. I had such a great season in this boot. I just love everything about this boot. It’s beautiful. So if I had to pick any of them, it would have to be this one.”

And Beckham went on to reveal how his request to Adidas actually changed how some boots were manufactured in the future. Beckham added: “Most of the time the tongue (of the boot) just flapped around in games, so when I joined Adidas, I said ‘how about we stitch some elastic so the tongue just stays in place.’”

“The whole concept actually worked and as you see they took it to the rest of the boots going forward.” Beckham may not be a shoe designer, but there aren’t better strikers of the ball, and his advice was clearly expert.

The boots of today may not be as classical as they once were, but Beckham’s will forever be iconic. It’s now Lionel Messi and Mohamed Salah that are the flag bearer’s for the Adidas brand in football.
