Fans are getting their Victoria’s Secret underwear in a twist over the brand’s decision to have Doja Cat as the face of their next runway show.

On Thursday, the lingerie company said it was ‘thrilled to reveal’ that they selected the controversial rapper to be the featured performer in the reboot of their fashion show The Tour 23, which premieres September 26 on Amazon Prime Video.

The decision comes as the 27-year-old Grammy winner has courted controversy by blasting her own fanbase and losing a considerable amount of social media followers in the process.

In the teaser, the Kiss Me More star flaunted her slim 5ft5in figure in lingerie she ‘helped conceptualize’ with her stylist Brett Alan Nelson.

‘Victoria’s Secret has always been such a fun, go-to brand for me since early on, and I love that I can still say that today. Being a part of a global phenomenon like the Tour has been an incredible experience,’ Doja Cat (born Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini) gushed to Harper’s Bazaar on Thursday.

‘Because The Tour is a celebration of the strength and unique talent of creatives, we really wanted to channel this message through this look. I felt so powerful and confident wearing these pieces, which is so important to me.’

Problem is the Attention rapper – who boasts 62M social media followers – has been unfollowed by 566,040 Instagram users over the past month for degrading fans over their devotion to her and her last two ‘money grab’ pop albums, according to Social Blade.

This heated backlash was on full display in the comments of the 46-year-old lingerie retailer’s two Instagram posts where fans dragged them for ‘bringing a horrible artist to perform.’

‘VS you’re gonna lose a vast majority of not only followers but your customers, just because of this trash bag you’re campaigning with,’ Instagram user @sim_ran.97 wrote.

Another user called @lexylove321 said: ‘It’s our job to cancel rude people, do not give them any more platforms!’

‘Sorry but Doja no, too many controversies and I don’t think that fits with the new idea of Victoria’s Secret that you want,’ Instagram user @laurii__roncero plead.

Another user called @mr.unik wrote: ‘Big no! Why are you going to the dark side? Why not focus on nice things plus elegant sexuality. These satanic things are bad!’

The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show – which employed only tall, thin, and long-haired models – was staged from 1995-2018 before being canceled by ABC due to low ratings.

The San Francisco bra brand experienced a massive reckoning culminating from the association of L Brands Inc.’s former CEO Les Wexner with sex offender Jeffrey Epstein as well as the Me Too movement and call for more diversity.

Savage X Fenty founder Rihanna promptly capitalized on Victoria’s Secret’s absence, and she began staging her own annual panty extravaganza in 2019 through the exact same streaming giant, Amazon Prime Video.

Only the 35-year-old Bajan pop star made sure to be inclusive – casting models and dancers of all sizes and genders and abilities alongside performances from major recording artists.

The Tour 23 should not be confused with Doja Cat’s first arena tour as a headliner – the 24-date The Scarlet Tour, which kicks off Halloween night at Chase Center in San Francisco.

The I Don’t Do Drugs star appeared to be taking inspiration from Brian DePalma’s 1976 horror classic Carrie with the blood-soaked nude artwork for her fourth studio album tentatively titled Hellmouth, which RCA/Kemosabe Records will release later this year.

Doja Cat – who nearly quit the music industry a year ago – was previously forced to apologize for her very public use of homophobic slurs to attack rappers Tyler, The Creator and Earl Sweatshirt back in 2015 as well as hanging out in far-right chat rooms.
