Selena Gomez’s sponsorship deal cost her a fortune when the company tanked

The usually business-savvy singer Selena Gomez suffered a massive loss after a deal with a company went sour.

Selena Gomez hardly needs an introduction. As an accomplished actress and producer of TV and film, a music superstar, and the CEO of a successful makeup line called Rare Beauty, the young star has already proven to be one of the most business-savvy starlets in show business.

Selena Gomez's Sponsorship Deal Cost Her A Fortune When The Company Tanked

According to a July 25th, 2023 report in Celeb Net Worth, the “Calm Down” singer is worth an estimated $800 million. This vast sum is impressive given the star’s humble roots, growing up in a middle-class household in Grand Prairie, Texas.

But like all successful business people, their climb to the top of success hasn’t been without its challenges. That’s what happened when Selena Gomez reportedly backed out at the last minute with a former prominent marketing company, which ended up costing her a hefty sum.

Selena Gomez Lost Money In A Lawsuit After A Failed Perfume Endorsement

Selena Gomez has been the face of many popular brand deals throughout her lengthy entertainment career, such as:

Adidas

Coach

Puma

To give fans an idea of how much money Selena makes from a typical brand campaign, Cosmopolitan magazine wrote that in 2016, the “Come And Get It” singer was paid roughly $10 million from her exclusive deal with Coach, and in 2017, she was paid an estimated $30 million for a two-year deal with Puma.

While her many brand endorsements have helped to accumulate her massive $800 million net worth, there was one lucrative deal that didn’t materialize that would have made the “Wizards of Waverly Place” actress even richer.

According to a report by Fox News, Selena Gomez was sued in 2013 by Adrenlina Inc., a retail, entertainment, media, and publication marketing brand company Adrenlina Inc.

But why did the company sue the pop star? According to court documents, Adrenalina Inc. decided to sue Selena after they claimed they spent nearly $2 million on a perfume brand that Gomez was supposed to endorse. The company added that Selena violated the terms and conditions of the contract when she unexpectedly backed out of the deal at the last minute.

However, Selena Gomez’s attorneys countered the claim, stating that the reason why Gomez refused to go through with the contract was because she and her team had it on good authority that Adrenalina Inc. was on the verge of going broke. Gomez’s attorney, Michael Weinstein, made an official statement to TMZ on behalf of his client:

As a result, Selena Gomez sued Adrenalina Inc. for $5.2 million, claiming that the company was well aware of their organization’s financial problems and didn’t disclose this crucial monetary information to Selena or her team, thus ruining any business deal they had.

In addition, Gomez’s attorneys insisted that Adrenalina Inc. had promised to pay her that $5.2 million as a total sum from the earnings from the sale of the since-defunct perfume.

However, as Fox News noted, Selena Gomez lost in court and had to pay Adrenalina Inc. a six-figure sum for backing out of her perfume deal with them.

I wanted to start a conversation about how can you make yourself feel great. It’s not necessarily about needing these things to make yourself feel beautiful. People of my generation have all this pressure to look a certain way, and I wanted to make a line that took away a bit of that pressure. I use real people in the campaigns.
