The NBA legend wore non-Lakers apparel

Despite defeating the New York Knicks 113-105 on January 3, the Los Angeles Lakers were not the ones attracting the headlines. It was LeBron James who stole the show by choosing to steal a Knick’s towel postgame.
As he conducted an interview he was not wearing the colors of the team that pays him a salary of $47.6 million per season, he was wearing the white, blue and orange of the Knicks, leaving fans questioning why he chose to do so.
LeBron James and 2 Chainz exchange courtside greetingsTwitter
One user wrote, “Why LeBron using a Knicks towel? I thought they use their own?”
Whilst a second user commented, “Lebron putting that knicks towel on I ain’t gon lie.”
A third said, “Wait a second, why is lebron wearing a Knicks towel in the post game??? Is that normal?”
Why did he do it?
Could it have been a subtle message to the Lakers’ board and front office? According to reports the legendary basketball star and the organization are locked in a dispute over a contract extension.
It could see him depart from the team after four years and an NBA Championship there, whilst he is still at the top of his game and would be a welcome addition to any franchise too.
James has a player-option for the 2024/25 season and has not yet chosen to exercise it. If he fails to do so then he will become an unrestricted free agent and could choose any NBA team of his liking so long as they would have him.
He posted a cryptic message on X.com, formerly Twitter, recently too that was simply an hour glass that’s running out. Could he be signalling his time at the Lakers is coming to an end?
The Lakers are currently .510 in the Western Conference after 51 games of basketball. They sit nine games behind the table-topping Oklahoma City Thunder and are ninth overall.
