Jennifer Lopez is reportedly showing husband Ben Affleck that “she’s the boss” after the pair have clashed over money. Despite dropping $5 million on her wedding ring, Affleck has been arguing with his wife over her spending.

The couple, who married in July 2022, have had a rocky start to their marriage after clashing over the price of their $60 million mansion. Insiders close to the couple revealed that Lopez “paid for most” of their new home. “Jen’s paid for most if not all of it, saying it was the small price to pay for their future happiness.”

They purchased the 12-bedroom, 24-bathroom just one month before their one-year wedding anniversary. The building flaunts a 12-car garage, a 5,000-square-foot guest penthouse, sports lounge, gym and bar alongside a two-bedroom guard house. Jennifer Lopez bought the mansion at a bargain, as it was originally listed at $135 million in 2018.

“If it means it gets her off the hook for having all of the expensive cars, the hired help, day-to-day outgoings on personal trainers, beauty treatments, chefs and fancy yachts then she’s OK with fronting the money,” a source told Closer. “Especially as she gets to call the shots and remind Ben that she’s the boss.”

Ben Affleck is rumored to be having issues with his wife’s lavish spending habits. “Ben has been moaning for a while now that he can’t keep up with Jen’s spending and nor should he have to – it’s one of their big issues,” a source explained.

Fans believe that Jennifer isn’t being supportive of Ben’s sobriety after spotting these online clues.

“He’s always enjoyed spoiling himself, but she takes it to a whole new level. It’s ironic that she made this big thing out of tying the knot at a low-key event,” the insider added. “The reality was that, almost right away, she was rolling out the mega yachts, buying fleets of cars and insisting on this A-list couple lifestyle, and Ben didn’t have any say in the matter.

Their friends believe she is buying her way to his affections. “Their friends think it’s pretty sad that she needs to essentially buy her way back into his affections, and that it says a lot about how rocky and superficial things are between them right now?”

Although he is now trying to cut their spending habits, Ben Affleck brought Jennifer Lopez a lavish engagement ring. The sparkler is complete with an 8.5-carat green diamond at the center and two smaller white diamonds on the sides. The pair became engaged in April 2022, rekindling their romance after ending their original engagement in 2004.

While it has been reported the ring could be worth up to $10 million, Platinum Guild International’s Jenny said the estimated price is supposedly somewhere over $5 million. “Since natural green diamonds are very rare, I would estimate this ring costs at least $5 million,” Jenny explained.

JLo’s latest selfie shows she’s keeping her husband close to her heart, literally and figuratively.

Green is a greatly symbolic color for the couple. “I’ve realized there are many moments in my life where amazing things happened when I was wearing green,” Lopez revealed. “Maybe you can remember a certain green dress.”

The singer shared that the inside of her band is engraved with the words “Not. Going. Anywhere.” because “that’s how he would sign his emails when we started talking again,” Lopez said of Affleck, 50. “Like, ‘Don’t worry, I’m not going anywhere.’”

In 2021, he gifted Lopez for her 54th birthday a necklace worth $44,665 from Foundrae. “Ben wanted to get something really special for her birthday. He wanted to put together a meaningful story. He didn’t just get her the biggest diamond he could find, he wanted to say something about their relationship,” the jewelry designer revealed.

Ben Affleck’s Experience Mishandling Money

There may be a reason why Ben Affleck is so hesitant about spending money. Ben Affleck has opened up about his early days as an actor living in New York with Matt Damon and mismanaged their money after their big break.

Affleck and Matt Damon sold the script for Good Will Hunting for $600,000, which led to them winning an Academy Award. “When we sold Good Will Hunting, I was like, ‘We are now rich for life. My needs are over. I will never have to work again. I’m rich, forever,” he told Drew Barrymore during an appearance on her chat show. The Argo director soon learned this money could disappear quickly when mismanaged.

Having split up the money, Damon and Affleck received $300,000 each. They then had to pay their agent a $30,000 fee and take out $160,000 for the taxes. “We had $110,000. We each bought $55,000 Jeep Cherokees.” the Justice League actor continued, “And then had $55,000 left which, naturally, we decided to rent a $5,000 a month party house on Glencoe Way by the Hollywood Bowl, and we were broke in six months.”

The two shared an apartment with Affleck’s brother Casey when they were all struggling actors in Los Angeles.

Their decision to live lavishly, soon left the pair broke. This could be the reason why Affleck is so uneasy about Jennifer Lopez’ spending habits. Matt Damon has also recalled sharing a bank account with Affleck during a joint interview on The Bill Simmons Podcast in March, revealing that they used it to fund trips for auditions in New York.

“We were broke in six months,” Affleck revealed to host Drew Barrymore. However, the Air director doesn’t have any regrets about sharing an account with Damon because it was ultimately “really valuable” for their friendship.

“We were friends, and we wanted each other to succeed, and we loved each other, so it seemed clear, like, ‘Let’s do this together,’” Affleck said.
