Bradley Cooper, 43, who directed the remake of the 1937 movie, wiped off her make-up before the screen test, leaving her bare-faced

Test: Lady Gaga has opened up about how she faced her insecurities during a make-up-free audition for A Star is Born, set to be released on Wednesday. She’s pictured in the drama
Honest: The singer (pictured in two past bare-faced selfies), 32, called herself ‘so insecure’, adding: ‘I like to preach, but I don’t always practice what I preach’
‘It put me right in the place I needed to be, because when my character talks about how ugly she feels — that was real,’ Gaga told the LA Times of the moment, which dates back to 2016.
While Gaga, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, has often urged others to embrace what makes them unique, she explained that she has struggled to take her own advice.
‘I’m so insecure,’ she added. ‘I like to preach, but I don’t always practice what I preach.’
The singer eventually appeared on camera wearing only eight-hour cream and chapstick.
Of course, she got the part, and now stars as Ally, an aspiring singer, in Cooper’s directorial debut.
In the musical drama, Cooper plays Jackson Maine a worn-out rock star battling alcohol and drug addiction who kick-starts Ally’s career and falls in love with her in the process.
Gaga has opened up in the past about coping with an eating disorder as well as depression and anxiety.

Pin-up: Gaga (pictured last week in Venice) has pulled off a variety of glamorous looks while promoting A Star is Born
‘I still sometimes feel like a loser kid in high school and I just have to pick myself up and tell myself that I’m a superstar every morning so that I can get through this day and be for my fans what they need for me to be,’ she said during a raw sequence that was filmed in black and white as she removed her make-up in front of a mirror.
Now, Gaga knows she wants to be remembered for the emotions she conveys, more so than her appearance in a movie.
‘To be honest, I think what makes me feel beautiful is when I see happiness in my fans,’ she told the LA Times.
‘When I see or hear from them that the music that I’ve made has changed their life in some way, that’s what makes me feel beautiful. Because this is just the outside, you know?
‘And at the end of the day, I could be in a million movies and put out a million songs and everyone could say, “She was so beautiful,” but that’s not really what I want.
‘I want them to say, “I saw that movie and I cried my eyes out and I learned something about myself.”‘
