Jennifer Lopez Just Made a Case for the Controversial “Dirty Denim” Trend

Jennifer Lopez always knows how to throw in a subtle shake-up when it comes to her looks, whether she’s giving businesswear a mermaid spin or layering a fluffy fur coat over a gray sweatsuit.

On Sunday afternoon, the This Is Me … Now: A Love Story star surprised us yet again when she sported a chic ensemble comprised of various shades of blue. The look included a pair of ballooning jeans that leaned into the polarizing “dirty denim” trend, a Y2k fad that has been making a comeback.

The wide-leg, light-wash pants included sandy discoloration along Lopez’s knees, which gave the appearance that she had been kneeling in the dirt right before she embarked on her outing. If you’ll recall, we’ve seen more extreme versions of this trend in recent years, like Balenciaga’s “super destroyed” baggy pants from its Summer ’23 collection, or Diesel’s ongoing production of its own dusty denim look.

With J.Lo’s prim fit, this touch added an exciting contrast to the ensemble, helping to dress it down and providing a striking color change. It felt like Lopez was trying to wink at ’90s street style, and it totally transformed an ensemble that would have otherwise been categorized simply as quiet luxury.

For the rest of her fit, the “Can’t Get Enough” singer sported a royal-blue Intimissimi turtleneck, which she layered under a slightly darker peacoat. Accessories-wise, Lopez kept the palette consistent with a pair of sky-blue heels and an aqua quilted mini bag from Chanel. She even had a touch of blue in her oversize Gucci shades, which featured gradient lenses that morphed from navy to gold. Finally, she added a pair of thick golden hoop earrings and golden rings, as well as bright pops of red with her lipstick and nails.
