Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj are headed for a Young Money sales showdown when both of their projects arrive next month.
Nicki Minaj has long locked in November 17 for her anticipated Pink Friday 2 sequel but Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz are moving in too with their Welcome 2 ColleGrove joint project set to arrive on the same day.
Some of the Barbz fans were not thrilled to see Weezy invade November 17, as they wanted the full attention to remain on Nicki as she goes for another No. 1 album atop the Billboard 200.
“Now why would wayne drop on that date knowing Nicki has been talking bout to this date for months,” one person wrote in The Shade Room‘s comment section.
Another added: “That’s okay because we all know, NICKI MINAJ is going to outsell everyone!”
One more wondered: “Why he couldn’t wait tho let her have her moment alone then drop?”
The fans’ conversation surrounding sales for the Young Money rappers spilled over into Twitter.
“Wayne choosing the same release date as Nicki is weird but he’s no competition in sales/ streams fr if we being honest,” a fan penned.
Weezy F. Baby isn’t the commercial sales titan he once was over a decade ago when he sold over a million units in the first week thanks to Tha Carter III in 2008.
As for Nicki Minaj, the Queens legend’s first two albums went No. 1 while her more recent two have come in the second slot. Although 2018’s Queen sold 185,000 units in the first week but was beaten by Travis Scott’s ASTROWORLD album.
Nicki returned on Friday (October 20) to heat up prior to her album’s arrival where she rapped alongside Drake and Chief Keef on “For All The Barbz.”
Sandwiched between the Toronto and Chicago rappers’ original “All The Parties” vocals, Nicki slows things down with a verse filled with clever punchlines aimed at her competition.
“Ayo, pushin’ your pen or you pushin’ your luck?/ Tummy on tuck and my titties reduct/ Oh, look, you guys, I’m back to a D cup/
Oh, look, now bitches is tryna meet up,” she raps over the woozy instrumental.
“VMAs was a family reunion/First time in a while I seen all of my sons/ Keep it a hundred, keep it in a trust/ If I lose 99, I still keep it a buck.”
