Miley Cyrus’ “Party in the USA” made her a ton of money (and earned her critical acclaim), but Miley doesn’t really like the song.
Miley Cyrus first rose to fame playing the title character in Hannah Montana and has since gone on to have a successful solo singing career, which includes various hit singles, tours, and album releases that beat out the competition every time.
One of the songs that really helped her rise to fame in her singing career was “Party In The USA.” While her fans may have loved it, it appears that Miley took the opposite view of this song and has even gone as far as to say that she hates it.
But with it being one of her most successful songs and having made her millions of dollars, this has led many fans to wonder why exactly Miley hates it.
‘Party In The USA’ Was Controversial When Miley Performed It
Despite ‘Party In The USA’ going on to become a big success, it also became one of Miley’s more controversial songs. However, this isn’t due to the lyrics and the controversy came from one of Miley’s performances of the song when it first came out.
Miley performed the song at the Teen Choice Awards and first emerged onto the stage wearing a tank top, a tight pair of shorts, and a pair of boots. While some people took issue with the outfit, others were more annoyed about her dance moves, which involved Miley dancing on a pole.
At the time of the performance, Miley was still one of the Disney Channel’s biggest stars, with her still starring in Hannah Montana at that point. Due to the channel’s audience being in the 6-14 age range, many parents were worried that Miley’s performance would lead her impressionable young fans to start performing similar moves.
Disney Channel refused to comment on the situation at the time but just made sure to reiterate to parents that the content shown on their channel would be age-appropriate for their kids.
Miley Cyrus Hates ‘Party In The USA’ As It’s “Not Her Style”
Where most artists are really proud of their top hit songs and love to talk to them, Miley takes a different approach. In fact, even though one of her hit songs is ‘Party In The USA’, this is one of Miley’s most hated songs despite its success.
At the time of the song’s release, Miley was talking to her fans for MileyWorld, and told them that she really wasn’t a fan of the song. She said that she doesn’t listen to pop music, which is surprising given the song is in that genre, and that it’s just “not her style.”
Another point she mentioned to fans was that she takes particular issue with the lyric ‘and the Jay-Z song was on’. Miley told her fans that she had never even listened to a Jay-Z song, so didn’t really like that the lyric was put in the song as it didn’t really relate to her.
Part of the reason for this was that Miley didn’t write “Party In The USA” was that it was written by Jessie J, Dr. Luke, and Claude Kelly, who all have more experience with the pop music genre. But why did Miley choose a song that wasn’t even her style?
She says it was because she needed more songs for her 2009 EP ‘The Time Of Our Lives’ and that the song was there, so she decided to take it. She has, however, admitted that her decision to include the song on her EP was one of the best decisions she made.
Miley has said that despite her dislike of “Party In The USA,” she is still grateful for its success. She said she is “blessed” for the song to have done as well as it has and that God has put her “in an amazing position with amazing people.”
She has even performed the song on a number of different shows, such as when she performed it alongside Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show in a New York City subway station while in disguise.
Miley was also pleased to see the song in use when Joe Biden won the Presidency in 2020, with many people standing outside their houses and singing the song loudly and proudly.
“Party In The USA” Is One Of Miley’s Best-Performing Singles
Despite the fact that Miley hates ‘Party In The USA’, it still remains one of her best-performing singles, even though it was first released so long ago.
‘Party In The USA’ debuted at no. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was also in the top 10 in many different charts from all over the world. It is also one of only 120 songs in history to become diamond-certified by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) as the song sold over 10 million copies.
It is also classed as one of Miley’s biggest moments in music history, as three years after “Party In The USA” was released, it had sold over 5 million copies, with Miley being the youngest singer to ever achieve this award.
Not only did she achieve this, but Miley also managed to make $10 million from the initial sales of “Party In The USA.” As many fans still play the song regularly, she is likely to still make royalties from it, although the exact amount is unknown.
