Miley Cyrus’ brother Trace has told how he believes being part of a famous family has negatively impacted his music career.

Trace, 34, has released music as a solo artist while he was also a guitarist of pop-rock band Metro Station, which formed back in 2006.

However, Trace has now told how he believes he would be ‘much more successful’ if he wasn’t part of a famous family.

Trace’s sister is Miley Cyrus, who found fame on Hannah Montana before launching a hugely successful music career, while his adoptive father is country music star Billy Rae Cyrus.

His comments came as he held a Q&A session on his Instagram Stories on Monday, where a fan asked him: ‘Is it hard being in a family that is in the spotlight?’

In response, Trace told how he believes his ‘hard work’ in his career is ‘discredited’ because he is part of a famous family as he gave his candid thoughts.

He said: ‘I love my family so much but I think I’d be much more successful if I wasn’t part of a famous family.

‘People immediately want to judge me and discredit all my hard work because of who I’m related to. But that’s so far from the truth.’

Trace went on to insist that he secured a record deal before his younger sister Miley, now 30, found fame on Disney Channel and told how he never used his recognisable surname in his early career.

‘I got a record deal without anyone from my label even knowing who I was related to till after they signed me,’ he continued.

‘I never put my last name online anywhere for the first years of my career until people started finding out.

‘When my band started taking off Miley had just started Hannah Montana so people weren’t even familiar with it.

‘I was touring in other countries when people didn’t even know who Miley was and they definitely didn’t expect me to be the son of a country music singer because I never brought it up.’

Another fan asked him if he wished he ‘didn’t have money or fame’, and Trace again told of the struggles of being in the spotlight in his response.

He said: ‘Sometimes I wish people didn’t know who I was but I always want more money. Money=freedom.’

His name was changed in 1993 after he was adopted by Tish’s second husband, two-time Grammy winner Billy Ray Cyrus.

Billy and Tish were married for 28 years before legally separating for the third time in April after 28 years of marriage, according to TMZ.

As well as Trace and Miley, the exes also share son Braison, 29, and Noah, 23 – who has also followed in her family’s footsteps and launched a successful music career.
