It was alleged that Nicki Minaj threatened to shoot Mariah Carey during a vicious altercation on the American Idol panel.

However it seems the pair may have both taken the time to cool off as the atmosphere on set on Wednesday, for the second day of filming, was apparently much better.

Sources connected with the show told TMZ that the divas were civil to each other throughout the day after the confrontation ‘shocked everyone back into place’.

The pair, who are both new additions to the hit talent show’s judging panel, came to blows while filming in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Tuesday.

A production source tells TMZ that Nicki, 29, said: ‘If I had a gun, I would shoot her.’

The comment was not captured on video that has surfaced of the two feuding and is thought to have been said outside of the 42-year-old’s earshot.

NICKI vs MARIAH CAUGHT ON TAPE

NICKI: ‘Think I’m playin? Think this sh*t is a f*cking joke? Think it’s a joke? Think it’s a joke? Think it’s a joke? Say one more disrespectful thing to me, if you say one more disrespectful thing to me — off with your head!’

MARIAH: ‘I am not being disrespectful.

NICKI: ‘Off with your head, off with your head.

‘Don’t tell me I’m insecure, don’t tell me I’m inadequate… you gonna get sent [inaudible] just fall back. Don’t… you don’t know [inaudible] I don’t feel inadequate. You’re the insecure one sitting up there running down her resume every five minutes.

Every time you take a shot at me I’mma take it back, and if you gotta f***ing problem then handle it. I told them, I’m not f***ing putting up with your f***ing highness over there… figure it the f**k out. Figure it out.

MARIAH: ‘Why. Why.’

NICKI: ‘Figure it out.’

MARIAH: ‘Do I have a three-year-old sitting around me?’

NICKI: ‘I’m not sitting here for 20 minutes and having you run down your resume everyday, No! Goodbye!

MARIAH: ‘Listen, I can’t see my kids because you decided to make… to have… to have a little baby fit and going all around the stage.

NICKI: ‘Good, well then go see them now, go see them now … you’re boring as f**k, you’re boring as f**k.’

But American Idol boss Nigel Lythgoe dismissed the claims, saying: ‘The statement [that Nicki made a death threat] is absolute rubbish. It’s absolutely not true in any way, shape or form.’

Lythgoe told TMZ that Mariah confronted the Superbass singer to ask if she made the death threat, but Nicki denied making the comment.

He suggested Mariah’s team told her to stir up trouble.

Production was shut down for the day after the argument, during which Nicki called her a ‘b***h’.

She also labelled the Hero singer her ‘f*****g highness’.

Their fellow panellists Keith Urban and Randy Jackson were caught in the middle of the row.

But one person who was determined to stay out of it was Mariah’s husband Nick Cannon.

Speaking at a STOMP Out Bullying event in Los Angeles on Wednesday, he said: ‘I always say my wife is the strongest, classiest women that I’ve ever met in any situation. I’m never concerned about her handling herself.’

Nick added that she had already moved on and explained: ‘My wife’s not moved by the theatrics or pageantry. She’s just there to do her job and help young people on this show that we’ve all grown to love.’

A source also told TMZ: ‘[Nicki said to Mariah] “I’m gonna knock you out” – although this was not caught on tape.’

In leaked video, Nicki can be heard saying: ‘I told them I’m not f*****g putting up with her f*****g highness over there [Referring to Mariah]. Figure it the f*** out.  Figure it out.’

Mariah can also be heard answering back in the video – but it is difficult to make out exactly what she is saying.

The row is said to have started due to a disagreement over a contestant’s performance.

As he headed to bed on Tuesday night, host Ryan Seacrest wrote on Twitter: ‘Going to bed in Charlotte after an anything but dull day at #idol auditions. Hit u in morn.’

He said today: ‘It got heated between Nicki and Mariah. It was intense! I’ll be honest with you . .. It went far last night. It did get intense.’

Producers are now said to be concerned about how the pair will manage to work together for the rest of the season, TMZ reports.

Mariah was said to be unhappy with Nicki joining American Idol because she was worried it would turn the reality TV programme into a ‘freak show’.

A source previously told Hollywoodlife: ‘Nicki isn’t established enough to qualify as a judge.

‘Mariah wants a panel of bright, inspirational and constructive judges. Not some freak show!

‘Mariah thinks Nicki will just be a distraction and it will all be about her and her outrageous behaviour. Mariah will not be happy if Nicki joins the panel and she has let the producers know just how she feels!’

While Mariah has 22 years experience in the industry, relative newcomer Nicki only leaped to fame two years ago.

Mariah and Nicki have apparently not been getting along since auditions first started in New York last month.

During their first taping of the talent reality show the pair were said to have talked over one other in a bid to be the most vocal judge.

The drama began when Nicki starting critiquing a contestant, but despite it being her moment to reign, Mariah couldn’t resist butting in on several occasions.

Each time the Dreamlover star intervened, feisty Nicki just spoke louder.

A source said at the time: ‘These girls just don’t like each other.’

Following the first day of shenanigans in the Big Apple, a fan tweeted Nicki to ask how the judging had gone, to which she cryptically responded: ‘It was… interesting… ‘
