Nicki Minaj is set to star in and executive produce a TV series based on the Lady Danger comic book.
Nicki Minaj is all set to suit up as the titular character in Lady Danger, a new animated series from Amazon Freevee, according to Deadline.
The show is based on the popular Dark Horse comic book series of the same name, which was written by Alex de Campi.
In addition to her starring role, the multi-talented musician will also serve as an executive producer for the project.
Joining Nicki Minaj in executive producing Lady Danger are Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson of G-Unit Film and Television Inc., Brian Sher, and Paul Young and Mike Griffin of Make Good Content.
Carlton Jordan and Crystle Roberson, also executive producers for the project, are credited as writers. The animation studio Starburns Industries will be responsible for bringing the series to life.
Jackson took to social media to express his excitement about the announcement, sharing the news in two posts. In one post, the renowned hip-hop artist wrote, “What you doing today, we working @nickiminaj South Side you already know what it is.” In the other post, he teased that Lady Danger is coming soon.
The series takes place in the year 2075, in a world where governments have collapsed, and corporations have taken over. The story centers around a government field agent (Nicki Minaj) who is believed to have died on a mission.
However, she is later resurrected and becomes the titular character, a hero who works for the Bureau of Organized Terrorism Intervention (B.O.O.T.I.).
Lady Danger is a unique superhero, as she is one of the few black female heroes in mainstream comic books. The Dark Horse series has been praised for its representation and portrayal of a strong female character, as well as its focus on Afrofuturism. The character’s design was inspired by African and Caribbean cultures, with her outfit and weapons featuring tribal and futuristic elements.
The comic book series has also been lauded for its world-building and attention to detail. The world of Lady Danger is rich and complex, with a range of characters and factions that make the story feel alive. The series delves into the dark side of corporate rule and explores themes such as politics, power, and corruption.
