The 2024 Golden Globes handed out gongs to Oppenheimer, Succession and Emma Stone on Sunday night.

But away from the prizes, it was the backstage antics, on stage gaffes and history-making speeches which really got fans talking.

The ceremony held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel kicked off 2024 awards season and as with any live show packed with wall-to-wall A-listers, there were some Hollywood shocks.

MailOnline runs down the biggest viral moments of the night.

Jennifer Lawrence joked she would leave the 2024 Golden Globe Awards if she didn’t win.

When her name was called for the ‘Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy’ category, the No Hard Feelings star looked at the camera and mouthed, ‘If I don’t win, I’m leaving.’

Just a few moments later her pal Emma Stone, 35, was announced as the winner, however Lawrence took the loss in stride and did not proceed to leave.

Instead, she enthusiastically cheered on Emma, and appeared to scream out ‘Mother!’ in support of the star, who won for her performance in Poor Things.

Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez sparked wild fan speculation as they seemingly had a dramatic chat about Kylie Jenner and Timothee Chalamet.

Taylor, 34, was pipped at the post to the Cinematic and Box Office Achievement award – a new category for the 2024 Globes – as her The Eras tour movie lost to Barbie and was seen being consoled by BFF Selena, 31, before the drama began.

Video from their table shows the pair and Miles Teller‘s wife Keleigh Sperry having an extremely animated discussion – with a somber Selena waxing lyrical to a shocked Taylor and Keleigh, before the latter is clearly heard clarifying: ‘with Timothee?’ as Selena nods.

Fans quickly began to analyze the clip and claim Selena was detailing how she asked the Wonka star for a photo – but Kylie allegedly said no.

Selena and Timothee previously starred as love interests in Woody Allen film A Rainy Day In New York back in 2018.

The 2024 Golden Globes have sparked outrage by taking aim at the Royal Family, with host Jo Koy raising eyebrows with his savage rant in Sunday’s ceremony

Host Jo Koy raised eyebrows with his savage rant in Sunday’s ceremony about the royal family.

The comedian took aim at King Charles in his opening monologue by branding the family ‘rich, white and dysfunctional,’ before quipping that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are paid ‘millions for doing absolutely nothing.’

Referencing Golden Globes favourite The Crown, Jo compared the series to the HBO drama Succession, telling the audience: ‘Succession has nine nominations. Just a great series about a rich, white, dysfunctional family, all scheming – oh, wait, that’s The Crown. I’m sorry.’

Jo went onto take aim at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, and their oft-criticised Netflix docuseries.

The streaming service reportedly paid £88 million ($100million) for the couple’s 2022 docuseries as part of a multi-year deal with the streaming giant.

Referencing Harry and Meghan’s working habits, Jo quipped: ‘Harry and Meghan Markle got paid millions for doing absolutely nothing – and that’s just by Netflix.’

The joke sparked a visible reaction from Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos, who laughed at the quip.

The singer, 34, whose concert film The Eras tour movie was nominated in the new Cinematic and Box Office Achievement category but lost to Barbie, was enjoying a glass of champagne before Koy, 52, quipped about her romance with Travis Kelce, 34.

He said: ‘Welcome back. As you know, we came on after a football doubleheader.

‘The big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL – on the Golden Globes fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift.’

The camera then cut to a shot of a stoic Swift sipping on her drink as she failed to crack a smile.

Lily Gladstone, who was awarded the Best Actress gong for The Killers Of The Flower Moon, made history as the first Indigenous actor to win the accolade.

In Martin Scorsese‘s film, Gladstone portrayed Mollie Burkhart, an Osage woman whose family members are tragically murdered in a plot to seize their fortune.

Gladstone, whose heritage includes Blackfeet and Nez Perce roots, is now just the second Native actress recognized by the Globes. The first was Irene Bedard, nominated in 1995 for the television movie Lakota Woman: Siege at Wounded Knee.

‘This is a historic one, and it doesn’t belong to just me,’  Gladstone said in English, after opening their acceptance speech speaking in the Blackfeet language.

‘I’m holding it with all of my beautiful sisters in the film and my mother [in the film], Tantoo Cardinal.’

The star then noted that, in the past, Hollywood would create fictional Native languages instead of portraying them accurately and authentically

‘I’m so grateful that I can speak even a little bit of my language because in this business, Native actors used to speak their lines in English and then the sound mixers would run them backwards to accomplish Native languages on camera,’ Gladstone explained.

Oppenheimer’s Cillian Murphy earned a literal stamp of approval from his wife after learning he’d won the Golden Globe for ‘Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama.’

Just seconds after the win was revealed, the Irish actor’s longtime wife Yvonne McGuinness grabbed his face and kissed him.

The Irish artist was rocking red lipstick, which accidentally transferred onto Cillian’s nose.

After a desperate bid to wipe it off, Cillian decided to embrace the bright red smudge as he made his way to the stage to accept the honor.

‘First question, do I have lipstick all over my nose?’ he asked the star-studded audience from the podium. ‘I was gonna leave it.’

Kristen Wiig and Will Ferrell show off their moves

Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig brought the house down with a hilarious bit while presenting.

The 56-year-old Ferrell and 50-year-old Wiig – who star in the upcoming series Palm Royale – presented the Best Actor award, won by Paul Giamatti from The Holdovers.

Ferrell took to the stage to present, though they were interrupted by a bizarre tune.

Ferrell and Wiig smiled at each oher and Ferrell said, ‘Not sure what that was, Sorry about that.’

Ferrell continued, ‘Tonight we applaud the outstanding nominees. Legends like Nicolas cage, Matt Damon…’ as he music started up again.

As the music continued, both Ferrell and Wiig started breaking into a dance, but when the music stopped, a confused Ferrell screamed, ' What is going on?!'

Ferrell told Wiig, ‘Just keep going. Keep going,’ as she continued, Jeffrey Wright, Paul Giamatti, Timothee Chalamet, and, of course, Joaquin,’ as the music played again.

As the music continued, both Ferrell and Wiig started breaking into a dance, but when the music stopped, a confused Ferrell screamed, ‘ What is going on?!’

Wiig said, ‘Okay, will, let’s just be honest with everyone. Go ahead,’ as Ferrell admitted, ‘All right. Guys, this song does something to us. As you can see. And it always has. For decades. And whoever is putting on this show tonight knows it!’

Wiig said, ‘They wanted us to come out here, make a bunch of jokes, and we said no,’ as Ferrell added, ‘We said no! We wanna be serious tonight. Why? Because it’s a serious night.’

Wiig added, ‘And they knew just what to do to get what they wanted — play our favorite song. We look ridiculous,’ as Ferrell said, ‘Like a couple of j-holes.’

Kevin Costner turned out to be a Barbie fan, as he recited dialogue from the film.

The Yellowstone star, 68, was one of the presenter’s at the glitzy event alongside Barbie star America Ferrera, 39.

After she paid him a compliment by saying she was a fan of his film The Bodyguard, and quoted an iconic scene, Kevin followed up by reciting her Barbie monologue.

‘You know, it’s literally impossible to be a woman. You are so beautiful, and so smart, and it kills me that you don’t think you’re good enough,’ he quoted her, adding, ‘That was pretty good.’

A stunned Ferrera replied: ‘Did you, Kevin Costner, memorize my monologue about womanhood from Barbie?’ she asked, to which he hilariously replied, ‘No.’

He went on: ‘But it’s an important message, really… and it always serves to remind me what’s possible in film.’

‘It just reminds me that when we take our time, when we manage to get it right, when film is working at its very best it can be about moments you never, ever forget… you just had one of those moments.’
