Before joining Dallas during last season, Kyrie Irving formed an armada at the Nets for more than a year with James Harden and Kevin Durant. He recently spoke about this passage in his career with frankness… and perhaps a little too much.

After the first delicate months spent in the ranks of the Mavericks, he can now appear in front of journalists with a slightly lighter heart. Kyrie Irving has indeed got off to a good start to the season with his franchise, currently 5th in the Western Conference standings (10-6). It remains to be seen whether he will be able to experience the joy of a title again in a few months, something he failed to achieve in Brooklyn.

Kyrie honest about teaming up with KD and Harden in Brooklyn

Arriving at the Nets during the summer of 2019, Irving immediately teamed up with Kevin Durant . This, before James Harden joined them during the 2020-21 season. But despite all these pretty names within its squad, the franchise has never managed to reach even the Eastern Conference finals. A memory that Kyrie was called upon to return to following his recent duel against the Bearded Clippers:

It’s unfortunate that James, KD and I were part of NBA history as the “What-if” with our superteam and the expectations that surrounded us. We had a few good seasons together. Apart from things that we couldn’t control like the vaccine drama, the ups and downs of the different scenarios we went through and all that, I think we did pretty well.

A thought that the star leader explored further with the help of a metaphor that he quickly regretted:

I am not disappointed looking back on this period of my career. I think it’s a bit like that girl you loved who left. It will continue to hurt you for the rest of your life. You might have a beautiful, awesome wife and kids and all that, but you’re like, “Tss.” I don’t think about it again — I don’t want any problems with my wife. I can’t think of anyone else, baby! But you tell yourself that you are potentially missing something.

By seeking to make it clear that he does not see this episode as a failure, Uncle Drew took big risks with his marital situation. Let’s see if his wife will be understanding enough to spare him following his comments!

Not one to live in the past and feel sorry for himself, Kyrie Irving nevertheless reveals some regrets concerning his trio with James Harden and Kevin Durant at the Nets. All this, with a more or less well chosen image.
