OKC head coach, Mark Daigneault, said he wouldn’t comment on anything related to Giddey’s like “off the court”

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has broken his silence on the league’s actions toward the investigation surrounding player, Josh Giddey.

The shooting guard has continued to play for the Oklahoma City Thunder despite questions surrounding his alleged involvement in an inappropriate relationship with an underage girl.

The NBA commissioner said the league acted in line with how it deals with legal situations.

“I can’t think of many circumstances where we’ve suspended a player based on an allegation alone,” said Silver on ESPN’s NBA Today on Friday.

“In this case, so we have an allegation and then you have a police investigation and then a parallel league investigation. I also add that, where there is a criminal investigation, we take a back seat… that impacts how the players and players association can work with us because of course the player needs to protect his rights.

“I’m not going to say never ever, but I think this is the path we’ve consistently followed in the past.”

It has been alleged that Giddey, 21, spent the night with a then-16-year-old girl in 2021 after they met at a club in Oklahoma City.

Giddey reportedly broke things with her after learning her age.

He is being investigated by Newport Beach police and the NBA.

The Australian athlete endured boos from the Thunder took on the Minnesota Timberwolves on November 28.

Every time he made contact with the ball, he was met with jeers from the crowd.

The allegations stem from social media posts, which have since gone viral.

The posts have photos of a man, who appears to be Giddey, with a female.

The user, who has since deleted the post, sparked allegations of an inappropriate relationship.

The NBA acknowledged the posts and said that it was looking into them but no action has been taken against Giddey so far.

On December 4, it was reported that high-profile lawyer, Gloria Allred would be representing the family of the minor involved in the case.

Allred famously represented the family of Nicole Brown Simpson during O.J. Simpson’s “trial of the century” in 1995 and acted as a publicist and advocate for Amber Frey in Scott Peterson’s 2004 trial.

Giddey, who stands 6-foot-8, has averaged 12.1 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.8 assists over 20 games this season.

He was the sixth overall pick by the Thunder in the 2021 NBA draft.
