Nicola Peltz took to Instagram on Wednesday to express her grief about the death of her dog Nala, amid news she has reportedly taken legal action against a groomer who treated her pet chihuahua before she died.

‘I am truly still in so much shock and pain over my baby Nala suddenly passing last month following what should have been a routine grooming session,’ Peltz, 29, said in a post.

The emotional posting was accompanied with an image of Peltz and husband Brooklyn Beckham, 25, burying their beloved pet, as they embraced in front of a grave flanked with flowers.

‘I posted the experience on my Instagram to bring awareness, and was heartbroken to hear the horrifying stories from so many others who have experienced the same tragedy,’ Peltz said. ‘I can’t bear it. I’m outraged to hear how common stories like Nala’s are.’

Peltz added, ‘We need to do better and change the laws to better protect fur babies and the loving owners who care for them. Our pets are our chosen family.’

Peltz added: ‘I’ve dedicated most of my life to saving dogs and I can’t in good conscious let this horrifying act happen to more families.’

She wrapped up in saying, ‘I will work for changes and laws to help make sure no one else ever has to experience this heartbreak. I will always use my voice to protect our innocent babies. Love, always, Nicola.’

The actress reportedly filed a lawsuit against HoundSpa, which claims they are responsible for the death of her chihuahua Nala.

According to TMZ, the lawsuit lays blame against dog groomer Jony Ceballos who Peltz alleges has a history of ‘intentional and malicious abuse of dogs’.

Peltz alleges Nala was left injured and in severe physical distress after a routine grooming in HoundSpa’s mobile van.

Peltz is also reportedly taking legal action against HoundSpa owner Deborah ‘Deb’ Gittleman for keeping Ceballos on staff, despite there reportedly being past complaints about his behavior towards animals.

Peltz said she has been left in emotional distress over the ordeal, especially given she witnessed Nala’s death after rushing her to the vet following the grooming.

The outlet also reported that Peltz’s other dog Angel screams and shakes in terror when left alone now, following a grooming treatment.

Peltz, who first confirmed Nala’s death in June, has taken legal action after learning other pet owners had similar experiences with dog groomers.

In an earlier draft of her recent Instagram statement given to MailOnline, Nicola said: ‘I am truly still in so much shock and pain over my baby Nala suddenly passing last month following what should have been a routine grooming session.

‘I posted the experience on my Instagram to bring awareness, and was heartbroken to hear the horrifying stories from so many others who have experienced the same tragedy. I can’t bear it. I’m outraged to hear how common stories like Nala’s are.’

MailOnline has contacted HoundSpa for comment.

According to TMZ’s sources, veterinary records indicated that the dog had fluid in her lungs, neurological problems and a rapid heart rate before her death, though the exact cause of these issues remains unknown.

Peltz and Beckham had previously used the grooming service without any issues, according to the outlet.

TMZ’s sources claimed Peltz’s legal action is not motivated by money but rather by a desire to prevent a similar tragedy from occurring again.

Peltz, an advocate for animal rights, is seeking answers about Nala’s time with the groomer. However, there were no cameras in the grooming van, per the sources, raising questions about what happened inside.

Peltz previously stated on Instagram that Nala had been ‘perfectly healthy’ before her grooming treatment.

She wrote: ‘This has been the hardest month of my life. I can’t even find the words to describe my heartbreak on so many levels. Nala was perfectly healthy when she went to the groomers yesterday but came out hyperventilating and couldn’t catch her breath.

Peltz continued, ‘We rushed her to the vet and she passed hours later. I’m sharing this in hopes that it might prevent this from happening to other dogs. Her life was taken away from her way too soon. She was my beautiful queen and stayed by my side for 9 years through everything.

‘Please be careful who you send your dogs to because you don’t know what goes on behind closed doors. 1 day without Nala on earth feels like an eternity. I wish I could have her back in my arms. I pray she’s with my naunni. I hope I see them soon.’

Beckham had taken to his social media on June 15 to announce the loss and pay tribute to their beloved pet.

‘Dear Nala, we miss you so much, you were unexpectedly taken from way us too soon and hope others don’t experience a loss after something as simple as a grooming,’ he wrote alongside a snap of himself holding Nala. ‘You were the cutest little baby girl and we will always think of you.’

He wrapped up in saying, ‘We know you are looking and barking down on us. We love you so much and miss you beyond.’
