An official cause of death has been disclosed following the tragic passing of former NFL wide receiver Mike Williams earlier this year.

He died at the age of 36 this past September after being taken off life support, having gotten hospitalized for a construction site incident in which heavy material fell on his head.

Williams seemed like he would recover while in the intensive care unit as his condition did not appear to be life-threatening, but he unexpectedly passed away.

According to the Hillsborough County Medical Examiner Department (H/T Yahoo), his death was caused by “Bacterial Sepsis with Cerebral Abscesses and Necrotizing Lobar Pneumonia due to multiple Dental Caries and retained tooth roots,” with Arteriosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease also said to have contributed to his demise.

Williams appeared to have a bright NFL future ahead of him after making it to the pros. He showed immense promise during his rookie season as he scored 11 touchdowns.

He went on to register 996 yards and nine touchdowns in his second year ahead of a $40 million extension. However, things took an unfortunate turn as injuries would derail his career, and he was out of the league by 2016.

Williams ended his NFL stint with 223 catches, 3,089 yards, and 26 touchdowns in 63 appearances.
