He was born on June 28, 1971, in Pretoria, South Africa, and has also lived in Johannesburg and Durban.
In 1989, 17-year-old Musk moved to Canada to attend Queen’s University where he also obtained his Canadian citizenship.

Musk then moved to Silicon Valley, California, to attend Stanford University’s PhD program at 24, but quit after two days, according to Fortune.
