Kayleen and Rachel McAdams meet with Ancestry.com family historian Joseph Shumway to learn about their roots.

Rachel McAdams finds out that she can trace her path to an ancestor that lived a life that was “very Downton Abbey.”

Find out what exactly she discovers on Wednesday’s episode of TLC’s Who Do You Think You Are? ( 9 p.m. ET/PT) In it, she and her younger sister, Kayleen, follow the trail of their maternal grandfather from their home country of Canada to a great estate just outside of Devon, England. They learn about their third great-grandfather, who lived a life similar to what is portrayed in the PBS drama Downton Abbey. He was a high-ranking servant at Bovisand House, which they visit.

With the help of Ancestry.com researchers, the sisters also find a family connection to an important time in Canadian history during the American Revolution.

Who Do You Think You Are? is nominated for an Emmy this year in the structured reality series category where it is competing with shows such as Undercover BossShark TankAntiques RoadshowMythbusters and Diners, Drive-Ins and DivesWho Do You Think You Are? previously was nominated for an Emmy when it aired on NBC for three seasons before being canceled in 2012. TLC gave the series new life last year. Celebrities aren’t just in front of the cameras when it comes to this series. Among the show’s producers are Lisa Kudrow (FriendsThe Comeback) and Dan Bucatinsky (Scandal).

Another celebrity ancestry show called Finding Your Roots with host Henry Louis Gates Jr. airs on PBS. It is set to return for Season 2 on Sept. 23.
