We might be a couple of months away from fantasy football drafts taking place. But it is never too early to start researching and getting an idea where players are falling in drafts, especially at the quarterback position.

Quarterback is the most important position in football and the position that scores the most points in fantasy. Despite many fantasy managers choosing to wait for one in drafts, recent seasons have shown that taking a quarterback early could help win a championship.

So, let’s dive in and take an early look at the top five quarterbacks in fantasy football this upcoming season.

1. Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills

It’s pretty obvious that Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen will be the top quarterback taken in fantasy drafts next season. He is coming off his third QB1 finish over the past four years and just scored a career-high 410.6 fantasy points in 2023. It remains to be seen if the loss of Stefon Diggs — who was traded to the Houston Texans — will affect Allen’s passing in 2024. However, given his dual-threat ability, he should be just fine in fantasy this upcoming year.

2. Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles

After Allen, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts will likely be the next quarterback off the board. Hurts had his best fantasy finish in 2023 (QB2) while averaging 21.87 fantasy points per game. The 25-year-old has scored double-digit rushing touchdowns in three straight years, including a career-high 15 in 2023. That rushing alone makes him an easy selection early in fantasy drafts.

3. Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens

Following injury-riddled years in 2021 and 2022, where Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson finished as the QB14 and QB15, Jackson became a top fantasy quarterback again in 2023. He finished as the QB4 and won the second MVP award of his career. The 27-year-old is the best-rushing quarterback in the NFL, which helped him average 21.14 fantasy points per game last season. His rushing won’t stop in 2024 and that’s why he’ll be a top pick at the quarterback position.

4. Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes will drop in fantasy drafts next season after being the top quarterback selected in most leagues in 2023. Despite being drafted early in round two, Mahomes didn’t have the best fantasy campaign last year. He finished as the QB8 (the lowest of his career) while averaging just 18.4 fantasy points per game. Still, it’s Mahomes, and he should be considered a top fantasy quarterback again in 2024. He’ll fall a little behind the rushing quarterback trio (Allen, Hurts, Jackson) in drafts. However, he should find himself drafted right after them.

5. C.J. Stroud, Houston Texans

Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud should enter into the top-five fantasy quarterback discussion next season following a historic rookie campaign. Stroud threw for 4,108 yards, 23 touchdowns, and five interceptions across 15 games in 2023. Now, with Houston trading for Diggs, look for the 22-year-old to take that next step in Year 2. He averaged 18.7 fantasy points per game as a rookie, which seems like a nice floor for the former Ohio State product in 2024.
