The Carolina Panthers, now 1-10, decided to move on from first-year head coach Frank Reich. It was a move that caught the attention of former NFL superstar Tom Brady.

With rookie quarterback Bryce Young being the key centerpiece in Carolina for years to come, Brady cautioned that it’s important to build continuity within a franchise. It’s that continuity that can help a team to succeed.

“I think the important part about firing and hiring and all this is continuity is the key to the NFL, and business,” Tom Brady said. “The more you have continuity, the more you can build on things over the course of years.”

There are few players more associated with a particular coach than Tom Brady was with Bill Belichick in New England. Together, the pair won six Super Bowls in New England.

“If you look at football in particular, it’s hard to cover the amount of situations that come up every week, in a game, start of game, end of quarters, how do you use your timeouts, end of halftime, critical third-down situations, critical red area plays, situational football. All these things need to be built up, these reps in practice, talked about in meetings time and time and time again,” Brady said.

“It’s like trying to learn a language. … What if every year you had to switch the language? . . . It’s really hard to build up any of that consistency and continuity.”

David Tepper has owned the Carolina Panthers since May of 2018. During the time since he bought the franchise, Carolina has had six head coaches, including the interim head coaches that the franchise has had.

Panthers owner David Tepper reveals what he’s looking for in team’s next head coach

Given how much turnover the Carolina Panthers have had at head coach, there are questions about what owner David Tepper wants in a head coach. He explained that, despite how much turnover there has been, he wants a coach who will be with Carolina for an extended period of time.

“In other aspects of my life, we have people for 20-30 years who works for me. No one ever leaves me. I do have patience. My reputation away from this game is one of extreme patience,” Tepper said.

“I would like someone to be here 20, 30 years. I’d like to have someone say the eulogy at my funeral in 30 years. OK, maybe 40 years.”
