VIDEO: Shohei Ohtani’s Wife Stole The Show During His First Game With The Los Angeles Dodgers

Shohei Ohtani's wife, Mamiko Tanaka, in stands

Shohei Ohtani’s $700 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers stunned the baseball world this offseason and it’s already paying for the team.

The Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres opened up the 2024 season on Wednesday morning with MLB’s first regular season game in South Korea. Although the game started slow on offense, it ended as a bit of a ripper for the Dodgers as they scored four runs in the eighth inning to prevail 5-2 over the Padres.

Shohei Ohtani went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a walk and positively contributed to the win. He did, however, commit a boneheaded play when he failed to tag second base before heading back to first in the eighth inning.

On this day, Shohei Ohtani came in as the unquestioned star but it would be his wife stealing the show on this day.

In the stands was his wife, Mamiko Tanaka, a former professional basketball player. She could be seen celebrating with friends in the stands after he got his first hit.

She also reacted to him destroying a foul ball:

The 29-year-old moved from the Los Angeles Angels to the Dodgers in December on a record-breaking contract worth $700 million over 10 years. Shohei Ohtani won his second AL MVP Award with the Angels in 2023 with 44 homers and 95 RBI. He also posted a 10-5 record with a 3.14 ERA, according to ESPN.com.

Shohei Ohtani Announced He Got Married During MLB Offseason

Shohei Ohtani and Mamiko Tanaka are still newlyweds.

Ohtani, who is famously private about his personal life, disclosed no details about his wedding or his new wife last month when he took to social media to announce he is now married.

The only thing we knew about his wife was that she was Japanese.

He stated at the time that his spouse “is a Japanese woman” and stated in English that she is someone “who is very special to me.”
