Back in the early 2010s, the Florida Gators had a stout incoming freshman in Ronald Powell who could play both sides of the ball.

Ranked No. 1 in the 2010 recruiting class by ESPN, Powell was undoubtedly the crown jewel of the class.

No one could’ve known that his life would end so soon.

The former Florida Gators and NFL linebacker has tragically passed away, former teammate Junior Galette announced on Monday.

“I Love You Forever till we meet again an EXCELLENT FATHER Respected Brother and a Loving Son I am saddened to shared with the rest of the world that Ronald Powell Transitioned Earlier today,” Galette said via X. “REST IN POWER RONALD POWELL.”

Powell and Galette were teammates together during the 2014 season with the New Orleans Saints.

Powell was just 32 years old.

Powell was selected No. 169 overall by the New Orleans Saints during the 2014 NFL Draft. He had 14 appearances during his rookie year before being placed on injured reserve before the 2015 season.

He would never get back on the field for New Orleans as the Chicago Bears signed him to their practice squad. Months later, the Seattle Seahawks signed Powell and placed on the active roster. However, he did not make an appearance for the team.

He last played with the AAF, playing for the Orlando Apollos. The league would fold but Powell’s injuries followed him there as well.
