Henry Cavill has revealed he hates filming sex scenes and slammed them as being ‘overused’ in cinema and an ‘excuse to see people with less clothing on’.

The Jersey-born actor, 40, has endured raunchy shoots throughout his career, namely in his breakout The Tudors and more recently Netflix’s The Witcher.

But the former Superman star said the scenes left him feeling ‘uncomfortable’ and often added little to the narrative.

While he said they can sometimes be ‘great’ in aiding storytelling in movies, Henry claimed human imagination would ‘trump’ anything put on the screen anyway.

‘I don’t understand them – I’m not a fan,’ Henry told Sunday’s instalment of the Happy Sad Confused podcast.

The former Superman star (seen in an intimate scene in 2007’s The Tudors) said the scenes left him feeling ‘uncomfortable’ and often added little to the narrative

‘I think there are circumstances where a sex scene actually is beneficial to a movie, rather than just the audience.

‘I think sometimes they’re overused these days and it’s when you have a sense where you’re going “Is this really necessary or is it people just with less clothing on”.

‘And that’s where you start to get more uncomfortable and you’re thinking “There’s not a performance here, there’s not a piece which is going to carry through to the rest of the movie”.’

However, Henry did admit there was a time and a place for racy scenes.

‘I think sex scenes can be great in a movie, they can really help with the story telling, but most of the time the human imagination is going to trump it,’ he added.

‘So, it can be a little bit of a cop-out if a TV show or a movie is just filled with gyrating bodies and you’re going “Okay, but what is this doing for us apart from the idea of oh naked person, great”. [I’m] not a fan of doing them.’

But a younger Henry admitted there was a rather awkward moment during a sex scene in his breakout role The Tudors.

Henry played Charles Brandon in the 2007 TV series, and admitted that he was left very embarrassed when, then 23 years old, he got an erection while filming.

‘It’s only happened to me once,’ he told Men’s Fitness in 2015.

‘A girl had to be on top of me, she had spectacular breasts and I hadn’t rearranged my stuff into a harmless position. She’s basically rubbing herself all over me and, um, it got a bit hard.’

He apologised profusely afterwards, admitting: ‘It’s not great when you’re in a professional acting environment and somebody gets a b***r is it? No, not acceptable.’

It comes after Henry got a surprise revelation about his first Bond auditions in the 2000s while out on the promotional trail for the new spy action comedy film Argylle.
