Does this need any more promotional tricks when they got stars like Cavill and Cena? Meanwhile, to fuel up the excitement, in their promotional events, both Cavill and Cena are taking Taylor Swift’s name.

Swifties think that the Grammy-winning musician is the mastermind behind the thriller. Though the cast said that they are genuinely unaware of who the author of the spy novel is, they are equally happy if the association of Swift’s name brings more audiences to theaters.

Taylor Swift’s Name is Being Used to Fuel Up Excitement for Argylle

The film initially seemed to be based on a novel by a debut author named Elly Conway, but many think that Taylor Swift is the secret author. And, Henry Cavill and John Cena are talking about this thing to hype up the speculation.

“I think that’s great,” said John Cena while chatting with ET‘s Nischelle Turner.

“It speaks volumes of how influential she can be and, of course, it’s great for people to be aware of our film. We want people to see Argylle ’cause it’s entertaining and if Taylor Swift and her fanbase can be a vocal voice for us,” Cena said.

“It’s a movie about being a spy — you know, the greater the spy the bigger the lie — so to start off a marketing campaign or a push for awareness with some misdirection and deception, it couldn’t be a better movie it happened to.”

All these Swift-centric theories are just adding more fuel to the public’s interest. And the cast of the movie just are using this opportunity.

The film is based on the fourth book in the Argylle series. However, only one book has actually been released to the public.

Director Matthew Vaughn Dismissed These Speculations

Argylle director Matthew Vaughn said that Taylor Swift is not the author behind the spy novel Argylle. In a conversation with Rolling Stone, the director spoke on the speculation if Swift is the real author who goes by the pseudonym Elly Conway.

“I’m not a big internet guy, and it was actually my daughter who came up to me — this is the power of celebrity and the internet — and said, ‘You never told me Taylor wrote the book!’” Vaughn said.

He further added,

“And I’m looking at her going, ‘What are you talking about Taylor Swift wrote the book? She didn’t write the book!’ And I was laughing because I was like, ‘It’s not true! She didn’t write the book!’ But my daughter was convinced of it.”

“There is a real book … and it’s a really good book,” he continued.

“And there is an Elly Conway who wrote the book, but it’s not Taylor Swift. And I say that because I imagine Taylor Swift has a load of people trying to jump on her bandwagon left, right, and center. I don’t want to be a part of that club. I did read the conspiracies and I was like, ‘Wow, they don’t leave a stone unturned!’ But it’s not Taylor Swift. She definitely didn’t write the book.”

However, Vaughn admitted that the singer is the reason a Scottish Fold appears in the film. Argylle is out in cinemas next month on Friday 2 February.
