Deep down, we always knew that the departure of Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia would result in backlash – he’s just so well suited to the role, not to mention a diehard fan of The Witcher. Yet the call to fire the writers of the Netflix show so that Cavill can return wasn’t quite the level of backlash we were expecting.
The Charge.org petition is gathering momentum, with over 320k signatures and counting, thus showing just how beloved Cavill is as the White Wolf.
Opening with a rousing sentence, the creator of the petition explains how the writer of The Witcher books, Andrzej Sapkowski, spoke so highly of Cavill, saying, “‘I was more than happy with Henry Cavill’s appearance as The Witcher, he’s a real professional. Just as Viggo Mortensen gave his face to Aragorn, so Henry gave his to Geralt and it shall be forever so.’”
From there, the OP crucifies Netflix for its decision for Cavill to leave, stating how it’s not “because of Superman” but because executives have “made a grave decision against delivering for their fans”. They then close by bitterly recalling how fans “suffered” through the Game of Thrones finale and how this fandom doesn’t want to experience that same fate.
Although the original reason Cavill was said to be leaving was due to playing Superman in an upcoming DC film, it was later revealed that this wasn’t the case. Furthermore, Sapkowski has candidly revealed how Netflix “never listened” to him, much to his frustration. During a Comic Con interview, the writer said, “Maybe I gave them some ideas, but they never listened to me. They never listen to me. But it’s normal, it’s normal. ‘Who’s this? It’s the writer, it’s nobody.’”
For now, Liam Hemsworth is still claiming the role of Geralt as his own in the next season of Netflix’s The Witcher, with the season scheduled to release sometime between 2024 and 2025. Thank goodness all these disgruntled fans have The Witcher 4 to look forward to, with the familiar face of Geralt set to return there.
Small mercies.
The Witcher fans torn over ‘awkward’ footage that explains why Henry Cavill left Netflix show

The Witcher fans believe some “awkward” interview footage explains why Henry Cavill left the Netflix TV show.
It’s a shame what has happened to The Witcher TV show. The Netflix live-action adaptation started off strongly with its first season and while there were a few inconsistencies with the source material for the most part it impressed fans.
When season 2 rolled around it was a different story, and when season 3 aired in two parts fans were pretty much done with the series. They weren’t the only ones either as Henry Cavill, who played Geralt himself, had announced the third season would be his last. He’s now passed the swords and white wig over to Liam Hemsworth and while Hemsworth has been putting a lot of time into researching the role by reading the books, it hasn’t stopped fans from relentlessly attacking him.
The fourth season of The Witcher is set to drop sometime in 2025 provided it’s not cancelled, and while they wait with pitchforks and torches in hand, fans have been speculating what made Cavill leave the show in the first place.
While it could just be that he was tired of the work and wanted to move onto another project many believe it was the story straying so far from the books that caused the departure.
A tweet from mofromyt showed a clip of Cavill in an interview with series showrunner Lauren Hissrich who’s said she found the actor to be “really annoying” due to his insistence on staying true to the source material.
In the clip Hissrich talks about injecting comedy to the series to lighten the darker tone, with a popular example being Geralt’s solemn goodbye to his horse Roach being interrupted for the sake of comedy.
Fans said “I don’t blame him for walking away,” and believe future seasons will be rock bottom for the show without Cavill there to keep viewers engaged.
The fourth season of The Witcher is expected to air in 2025 on Netflix.
Henry Cavill picks Yennefer every Witcher 3 playthrough

Henry Cavill picks up Yennefer of Vengerberg every time during a playthrough of CDPRs The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
Yennefer or Triss? An age-old question asked since the dawn of time. Well, actually, that question has probably been asked by most since 2011 following the release of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, but you get my drift.
It’s a quite known fact that Man of Steel star, Henry Cavill is a massive fan of The Witcher, whether it’s the Andrzej Sapkowski novels or the video game franchise from CD Projekt Red. In fact, it is reported that Cavill was so keen to play Geralt of Rivia, that he annoyed the showrunner of the Netflix adaptation, Lauren Schmidt Hissrich. Though we’re with you, Mr Cavill.
What’s more, during the lockdown period of the COVID-19 pandemic, Cavill used his isolated time very wisely by finishing The Witcher 3 on its hardest setting. Well played Mr Cavill, well played.
So it’s safe to assume during the lockdown period, Yennefer seemingly became Henry Cavill’s digital love interest in the world of The Witcher 3. As reported by TheGamer (via Digital Spy), Henry Cavill was asked whether he was a Triss Merigold or Yennefer of Vengerberg kinda guy.
“For me, when I played the games, and especially when I read the [Sapkowski’s] books, it’s always been… I feel true to Geralt’s core that it’s team Yennefer,” the actor replied. “Of course, the great thing about the games is that you can do whatever you want, but for me — even in the games — team Yennefer.”
In related news, season three of The Witcher series on Netflix will be Cavill’s last before Chris Hemsworth assumes the role of Geralt of Rivia. I know, we’re sad too. While spoilers are being kept air-tight, Cavill’s final scene as Geralt is already being described as heartbreaking.
Season three of The Witcher is expected to premiere on Netflix this summer.
Cyberpunk 2077, The Witcher 3 veterans unveil dark new fantasy RPG

Well, this is certainly a project to keep an eye on. Ex Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3 devs have united under a new studio, announcing a brand new dark fantasy RPG as their first project.
In case you missed it, several former CD Projekt RED devs established a brand new studio back in February 2022 called Rebel Wolves, announcing soon after that they’d immediately begin work on an RPG. The RPG part came as a surprise to no one given that CD Projekt RED is one of the leading powerhouses when it comes to the genre. Those devs are clearly going to play to their strengths. Previously, a leak suggested the game’s title to be DAWNWALKER: ORIGINS but it’s now finally been unveiled that the upcoming dark fantasy will simply go by Dawnwalker.
Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty is the latest release from CDPR. Take a look at the trailer below.
As reported by Game Informer, Dawnwalker has officially been described as a “story-driven dark fantasy role-playing adventure,” with many of the team billing it as their dream project. More information on the game is due out later this year (Summer Game Fest or The Game Awards?) but for now, we know that Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz is on board as creative director. Tomaszkiewicz has an enviable career with prominent developmental roles on Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
The Rebel Wolves team were hesitant to dive into any specifics about the game but a piece of promotional concept art does show a mysterious sword-wielding protagonist, floating in a dense red fog with several runic symbols seemingly above their head. As to what this all means, we’re as clueless as you.
In a press release, Tomaszkiewicz said, “We want to craft a world that you will want to explore and dive deep into and tell stories that make you care about the characters,” adding that, “We aim to deliver an experience that will allow for a variety of choices and room for experimentation when replayed. Helping craft this experience with so many talented people will be my mission at Rebel Wolves, and I can’t wait for everyone to see what the team has been up to for quite a while now.” We can’t wait to see more.
The Witcher fans should check out this free Steam game

Will we ever come close to playing a franchise that entices us quite so completely as The Witcher? It’s highly doubtful. Yet, while few can match its domination of the RPG genre, there are other titles out there Witcher fans should check out.
One such game is free on Steam, and while it has mixed reviews, a lot of those hark back to its early early access days, meaning an unfair blemish has been left on its legacy. We wouldn’t say it rivals The Witcher by any stretch of the imagination, but it’s one to add to your games library if you’re looking to broaden your experiences.
In-keeping with The Witcher theme, have you watched the trailer for The Witcher Sirens of the Deep?
“Our story begins in the Plains of Spero, where five great City States rule over the land. Tensions have risen to boiling point, and several powerful City Lords wish to take control of the region and name themselves king. Peaceful negotiations have descended into to all-out war, plunging the region into chaos. Lords fight against each other to gain power and land – each one hoping to claim the throne…” reads the synopsis.
Avalon Lords: Dawn Rises is a real-time strategy game based in the medieval period. You won’t get an in-depth romance option with Henry Cavill’s favourite girl Yennefer, but you’ll be able to raise an army and conquer your enemies. I know most of us would prefer Yen, but few of us could keep up with her anyway.
Predominantly, this PC game centres around multiplayer combat. However, single-player campaigns are on the way for those who wish to be the only leading force in the hostile takeover of the land. Most likely these changes and more will appear in the “larger patch” the devs have said will launch “next month”, thus showing just how dedicated to growing this game the team is.
The game might not stay free forever, so make sure to check it out before a potentially hefty price tag is added.
