An escalating legal battle between Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie over Château Miraval, a French winery they used to own together, has resulted in a new court filing that accuses Pitt of acting like a “petulant child” after Jolie sold her share of the venture.

Angelina Jolie sells her stake in $164M French estate

Jolie’s former investment firm, Nouvel, which previously held a significant stake in Château Miraval before being sold to Russian billionaire Yuri Shefler, is suing Pitt for a minimum of US$350 million, as reported by the Financial Times.

Nouvel accuses Pitt of depleting Château Miraval’s assets through what they describe as excessive and unnecessary spending on renovations, referring to it as “stripping” and “looting” the estate. Allegedly, Pitt squandered millions on vanity projects, including extravagant swimming pool renovations, multiple reconstructions of a staircase, and extensive restoration of a recording studio.

According to court documents, Pitt spent nearly a million euros annually on rebuilding stone walls with stonemasons from Croatia.

Lawyers representing Nouvel assert that Pitt’s alleged misconduct intensified in 2021 after Jolie opted to sell Nouvel and her stake in the winery to Tenute del Mondo, a subsidiary of the Stoli Group owned by Shefler. They claim Pitt acted out of spite because Jolie chose to sell to Stoli instead of him, refusing to treat Nouvel as an equal partner in the business.

The legal dispute between Pitt and Jolie began when Pitt sued Jolie in February 2022 for selling her share of the winery, alleging that they had agreed to sell their stakes in Château Miraval separately only with each other’s consent—a claim Jolie denies.

In response, Jolie filed a countersuit, asserting that she sold her portion of the winery to achieve greater financial independence from Pitt after their 2016 divorce and to find closure from that painful chapter. She alleges that negotiations broke down when Pitt insisted on a nondisclosure agreement preventing her from discussing his alleged abuse of her and their children outside of court.

Jolie’s countersuit includes allegations of Pitt pouring beer on her and their children, as well as physically and verbally abusing them during a private jet flight in 2016. The filing claims Pitt chσkєd one child, ѕтяυ¢к another in the face, and grαввєd Jolie’s head, shaking her. The FBI investigated the incident but did not press charges against Pitt.
