Beyoncé and JAY-Z, known for their strong privacy measures, maintain an even more guarded approach when it comes to their three children.

The power couple, who exchanged vows in 2008 following a relationship that began in 2000, welcomed their first child, daughter Blue Ivy, in January 2012. Later, in 2017, they became parents to twins Rumi and Sir.

In a rare instance, JAY-Z appeared on an episode of Kevin Hart’s Hart to Heart series on Peacock, where he openly discussed his efforts to prioritize spending time with his children over his music career. He emphasized the importance of time management, acknowledging that time is the most valuable asset one can control. He reflected on how his perspective shifted after becoming a father, realizing that every moment spent away from his children is time lost in their development and growth.

Similarly, Beyoncé has also shared insights into the challenges of balancing motherhood and her career. Despite her immense success in the music industry, she has spoken about the importance of being present for her children and ensuring that they receive the attention and care they need.

Beyoncé expressed her sentiments regarding the challenges of balancing work and family life in a 2019 interview with Elle magazine. She highlighted the importance of being present for her children amidst her busy schedule, including dropping Blue off at school, attending Rumi and Sir’s activities, scheduling date nights with her husband, and making time for family dinners, all while managing her career and company.

As their children grow older, they have started to accompany their parents to more public events. JAY-Z notably brought Blue Ivy and Rumi to the 2024 Super Bowl, where they were photographed together on the field.

Let’s take a closer look at Beyoncé and JAY-Z’s three children, from the moment Blue Ivy arrived to the announcement of the twins that captivated the internet.

Beyoncé and JAY-Z became parents for the first time when they welcomed their daughter, Blue Ivy, into the world on January 7, 2012, in New York City. They shared the joyous news with the world through a series of photos the following month.

The former Destiny’s Child member announced her pregnancy on August 28, 2011, during the MTV VMAs in Los Angeles, where she cradled her bump on the red carpet. During her performance of “Love on Top,” she shared her excitement with the audience, inviting them to feel the love growing inside her.

Blue Ivy has already begun to follow in the footsteps of her musical parents. Just two days after her birth, her vocals were featured on her father’s song “Glory,” making her the youngest person to have a song appear on a Billboard chart, a feat recognized by the Guinness World Records.

In 2020, she made a notable appearance in her mother’s song “Brown Skin Girl.” Blue Ivy’s contribution to the track earned her a BET Her Award, NAACP Image Award, and a Grammy Award for Best Music Video, making her the second youngest individually credited winner of a Grammy Award.

Beyond her musical achievements, Blue Ivy has also played a role in inducting her father into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, provided narration for a book, and assists in caring for her younger siblings.

Blue Ivy is not only learning from her busy mom but also adopting her self-care rituals. Beyoncé shared with Harper’s Bazaar that one of her most fulfilling moments as a mom was finding Blue soaking in the bath with her eyes closed, using blends Beyoncé had created, and taking time for herself to decompress and find peace.

In October 2022, Blue attended the 2022 Wearable Art Gala in L.A. with her parents, where she made headlines by bidding over $80,000 on a pair of Lorraine Schwartz diamond earrings worn by her grandmother, Tina Knowles, who was hosting the event. Although eventually outbid, Blue’s enthusiastic participation showcased her early involvement in philanthropic activities.

After a four-year hiatus, Beyoncé returned to the stage for a remarkable performance in Dubai in January 2023. Blue made a special appearance during the set to sing a duet of “Brown Skin Girl” with her mother, dressed impeccably in a red, sparkling ensemble while Beyoncé stunned in a canary yellow corset-style gown.

Blue Ivy made another notable appearance at the 2023 Super Bowl alongside her dad a few weeks later. The father-daughter duo arrived in coordinating all-black outfits with graphic T-shirts and sunglasses. JAY-Z also showcased his dad skills by capturing photos of Blue in the Eagles’ end zone, demonstrating his supportive presence at the event.

In May 2023, Blue Ivy made a notable appearance at the opening night of her mom’s Renaissance World Tour in Stockholm, Sweden. She was spotted alongside her father, wearing an oversized black t-shirt, showcasing her support for Beyoncé’s performance. Later that month, Blue Ivy took the stage with her mom in Paris, where she participated in the dance choreography for two songs, “My Power” and “Black Parade.”

Following the performance, Beyoncé expressed her pride and gratitude for her daughter on Instagram, writing, “My beautiful first born 🙏🏾 I’m so proud and thankful to be your mama. You bring us so much joy, my sweet angel.” This heartfelt message demonstrated Beyoncé’s deep appreciation for Blue Ivy’s involvement and support during the tour.

Rumi and Sir, 6

Following an “extremely difficult” pregnancy, Beyoncé welcomed daughter Rumi and son Sir into the world on June 13, 2017, in Los Angeles. Exactly one month after their birth, the couple made their first public appearance together since becoming parents to three on July 13. On that same day, Beyoncé also unveiled the names and the first photo of the twins.

Explaining the choice of names, JAY-Z shared in August 2017, “Rumi is our favorite poet, so it was for our daughter. Sir was like, man, come out the gate. He carries himself like that. He just came out, like, Sir.”

Beyoncé first revealed she was expecting twins in a record-breaking Instagram post on Feb. 1, 2017. In the caption accompanying a photo of her cradling her growing baby bump, she expressed gratitude for the blessings of having their family grow by two.

While Rumi and Sir have not yet ventured into the music world like their big sister Blue Ivy, they have made select appearances. The twins have been featured in behind-the-scenes video footage from their mom’s photo shoots and even appeared in an advertisement for Beyoncé’s IVY PARK x adidas clothing line for kids.

Beyoncé shared that the inspiration for the children’s line came from wanting to coordinate outfits with her three kids on family vacations and shoots. She mentioned, “On our family vacations, we love to coordinate our outfits. My kids are usually on set with me for shoots, and we’d find ourselves putting them in extra-extra-smalls so we could match. So it is a natural progression for IVY PARK to introduce a selection of key silhouettes in children’s sizing.”

According to their grandma Tina, all three of Beyoncé and JAY-Z’s children are already developing a strong sense of style, and even contributed to their mom’s design line.

“Well, they are little fashionistas, and they have definite determination about what they like and what they don’t like. When Beyoncé’s doing the first samples, they get them, and some things they love, and some things you can tell are not their favorite,” she told PEOPLE.

Tina also shared that on a recent trip to Disneyland, 5-year-old Rumi defended her outfit choice when her older sister offered her opinion on it.

“We recently went to Disneyland, and she put on her Mickey Mouse shorts. Then she wanted to put on a sparkly printed top, which had the same colors. It actually looked really cute,” she explained. “But her sister came in and Blue was like, ‘My mom would be mad because she’s doing too much.’ And Rumi said, ‘This is my style.’ She’s 5. I was impressed.”
