On Friday March 29th, Beyoncé dropped her new album: “Cowboy Carter: Act II”. With a total of 27 tracks, Beyoncé’s 1 hr 18 min album has made history in less than a month.

Spotify announced on social media, that the day the album dropped, it became the platform’s most-streamed album in a single day in 2024 so far. The album also won  the title of “most first-day streams of a country album by a female artist” on Amazon Music.

Her new album was announced in a commercial during the 2024 Super Bowl. Shortly after the ad went live, she confirmed the release date on her Instagram. On the same day as the Super Bowl, the singer dropped two country songs from Act II: “Texas Hold ‘Em” and “16 Carriages”.

Some people were confused when they heard that her album would be a country-themed one, but approved when they heard it for the first time. “It’s not a country album, it’s a Beyoncé album”, said some fans on TikTok.

“Cowboy Carter” marks a bold departure for Beyoncé, showcasing her versatility as an artist by blending elements of opera, rap, and country music. The album features innovative covers of iconic tracks such as Dolly Parton’s “Jolene,” the Beatles’ “Blackbird,” and Chuck Berry’s “Oh Louisiana,” demonstrating Beyoncé’s ability to reinterpret classics across genres.

While many fans have praised the album for its originality and eclectic sound, some longtime fans have expressed disappointment, feeling that pop and rap better suited Beyoncé’s style. Charlie, a student from the Camaradiant and former Beyoncé fan, acknowledges the album’s greatness but believes it falls short of her previous work.

Despite mixed reactions, “Cowboy Carter” has generated significant buzz on social media, with many of its tracks gaining traction and sparking discussions among fans. Overall, the album has sparked a range of opinions, but its impact remains undeniable, solidifying Beyoncé’s reputation as a boundary-pushing artist willing to explore new artistic territories.

Mufasa: The Lion King , the prequel to Disney ‘s remake of The Lion King, is on the way. The film once again features Beyoncé as Nala and, now, her daughter will act alongside her mother.

The film will tell the origins of Mufasa, before he became Simba’s father.

It’s intriguing to see the star-studded lineup for the upcoming Lion King prequel. Aaron Pierre, known for his roles in “Krypton” and “Time,” will take on the iconic role of Mufasa, originally voiced by James Earl Jones. Additionally, Kelvin Harrison Jr., recognized for his work in “The Chicago 7,” joins the cast as the new character Taka.

Fans will be delighted to hear that Donald Glover and Beyoncé will reprise their roles as Simba and Nala, respectively. The cast also includes the talented Mads Mikkelsen and Thandie Newton, adding further depth to the ensemble.

Blue Ivy Carter has a special role in Mufasa

Blue Ivy Carter is set to make her film debut in Mufasa: The Lion King.

Previously, she appeared as herself in Beyoncé documentaries. But Mufasa will mark the first time Carter has acted in a film. And since she will be working with her mother, it seems like the perfect choice for her acting debut.

Carter is voicing Kiara, the daughter of Simba and Nala, in Mufasa: The Lion King. Donald Glover and Beyoncé are returning to reprise their roles as Simba and Nala, respectively, so Carter will play her own on-screen mother’s daughter.

It’s difficult to fake a close bond like that of a mother and daughter, so casting Carter will bring a degree of credibility to Kiara’s relationship with her parents.

This also means that Beyoncé had the chance to guide her daughter through her first film appearance.

Kiara will be crucial to the narrative of Mufasa: The Lion King. In the prequel, Rafiki will tell Mufasa’s origin story to Kiara so she can meet the legendary grandfather who died before she was born.

In this way, Mufasa will function as both a prequel and a sequel to The Lion King.

Mufasa: The Lion King opens on December 20, 2024.
