Scottish DJ, Calvin Harris, dated Taylor Swift for 15 months between 2015 and 2016 before eventually breaking things off with the Bad Blood singer in March 2016
Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris seemed like the real deal before the they called it quits in March 2016.
The husband of Radio 1 star, Vick Hope – who has admitted she can’t listen to Taylor’s music when Calvin is around – dated the Bad Blood singer, 34, for 15 months between 2015 and 2016, before eventually breaking things off in March 2016.
Calvin’s inaugural public appearance with Taylor unfolded at the Billboard Music Awards in May 2015, marking a significant moment for the couple. Their affectionate display, including hugs and kisses, during Taylor’s wins was captured by cameras, offering glimpses into their burgeoning romance. The Americana star’s unabashed affection for the Scottish DJ, who was then 40 years old, was evident for all to see.
Following their public debut, the duo collaborated on Calvin’s summer hit of 2016, “This is What You Came For.” Interestingly, Taylor contributed to the song under the pseudonym Nils Sjoberg, showcasing her versatility as a songwriter.
Despite their initial harmony, the couple’s relationship took a tumultuous turn, culminating in a bitter split. Taylor channeled her emotions into a breakup song, while Calvin swiftly moved on to a whirlwind romance with a prominent British actor, signaling the end of their musical and romantic partnership.

Taylor starts seeing Tom Hiddleston weeks after splitting with Calvin
Following her breakup with Calvin, Taylor wasted no time in embarking on a new and highly publicized romance, this time with British actor Tom Hiddleston. The pair’s relationship quickly made headlines as they were spotted gallivanting around, including a memorable moment of frolicking in the sea while sporting matching vest tops. However, their whirlwind romance soon took a turn as Taylor released the song “Getaway Car,” widely believed to be inspired by her relationship with Tom.
In “Getaway Car,” Taylor’s lyrics are interpreted by many as recounting her deliberate decision to entice Tom into a relationship as a means of escaping her previous one with Calvin. The song delves into themes of impulsive actions and seeking an exit strategy from a failing romance. Through her poignant storytelling, Taylor offers insights into the complexities of love, desire, and the pursuit of freedom.
As “Getaway Car” became a focal point for speculation and analysis among fans and media alike, it underscored Taylor’s talent for transforming personal experiences into compelling narratives that resonate with audiences worldwide.
Calvin makes cryptic comments about Taylor
Calvin’s response to the paparazzi shots of Taylor and Tom was marked by actions on social media that spoke volumes. He notably unfollowed Taylor on Instagram and proceeded to remove every trace of her from his profile, effectively erasing their shared history from public view. These actions, coupled with cryptic posts, fueled speculation among fans regarding the nature of their breakup.
In one instance, when criticized for wearing trainers designed by Kanye West, who was embroiled in a public feud with Taylor at the time, Calvin responded with a pointed remark: “Not jealous sir, FREE.” This response hinted at potential underlying tensions and hinted at his desire to distance himself from the drama surrounding Taylor’s public disputes.
Addressing accusations of “dumping” Taylor, Calvin refuted the claims, asserting, “I didn’t leave anyone and she’s def not sad. It’s all good.” His statements painted a picture of a breakup devoid of animosity from his perspective, suggesting a mutual understanding between the former couple.
Moreover, Calvin’s assertion that Taylor controlled the media narrative surrounding their breakup added another layer to the unfolding drama. He expressed frustration at feeling blindsided by the situation, highlighting the complexities of navigating a high-profile relationship under the scrutiny of the public eye.
Through his candid remarks on social media, Calvin provided glimpses into the dynamics of his relationship with Taylor and the challenges they faced amidst intense media scrutiny and external pressures.
Taylor’s fans slam Calvin
Amid the fall-out between Taylor and Calvin, Ms Swift’s spokesperson confirmed a much touted theory that Taylor had written Calvin’s hit song ‘This Is What You Came For’ under the moniker Nils Sjoberg.
Taylor’s fans quickly accused Calvin of unfairly taking the credit for her work, but he jumped on Twitter, now X, to set the record straight. Defending himself, he wrote: “I wrote the music, produced the song, arranged it and cut the vocals though. And initially she wanted it kept secret, hence the pseudonym.”
Calvin added: “Hurtful to me at this point that her and her team would go so far out of their way to try and make ME look bad at this stage though,” he went on. “I figure if you’re happy in your new relationship you should focus on that instead of trying to tear your ex bf down for something to do.”
Calvin accuses Taylor of trying to ‘bury’ him
In a final, biting remark, Calvin publicly confronted Taylor, accusing her of attempting to “bury” him in a manner reminiscent of her feud with Katy Perry. The reference harkened back to Taylor’s widely publicized rift with the “Roar” star, which was believed to be the inspiration behind Taylor’s hit song “Bad Blood.”
Taking to Twitter, Calvin addressed Taylor directly, asserting, “I know you’re off tour and you need someone new to try and bury like Katy ETC but I’m not that guy, sorry. I won’t allow it.” This pointed tweet served as a direct response to perceived attempts by Taylor to tarnish his reputation or diminish his standing in the public eye.
By invoking Taylor’s past conflicts and referencing her penchant for addressing personal disputes through her music, Calvin delivered a cutting blow, highlighting the intricacies of their relationship and the lingering tensions that persisted even after their breakup. The tweet underscored the complexities of navigating public scrutiny and interpersonal dynamics in the realm of celebrity relationships.
