You can blame Charli XCX’s newfound creative process on her love life.

In an interview with Spout Podcast on Monday, the “Boys” singer, 31, who is engaged to The 1975 drummer George Daniel, opened up about the “whole new dynamic” of making music with a romantic partner for the first time.

While discussing the creative process for her upcoming sixth studio album, Charli talked about collaborating with Daniel, 33.

“We’ve done a couple of things together. He’s not really all over it, but we’ve got a few ideas in the works,” she said.

Charli (whose real name is Charlotte Aitchison) added: “It’s funny, I have never sort of been in a relationship with someone that I’ve worked with, so it’s like a whole new dynamic. But it’s cool. There will be a couple of songs that he’s worked on with me.”

The Grammy-nominated singer first connected with The 1975 and Daniel in 2021 while working on the collaborative single “Spinning” with No Rome, and Charli’s fiancé later produced various songs on her 2022 album Crash, as well as the song “Hot Girl (Bodies Bodies Bodies)” for the 2022 A24 horror film Bodies Bodies Bodies.

On the Spout Podcast, Charli also discussed how her process differentiates from the “Somebody Else” group. “They take a lot of time when they are making a record and generally in the past I have been very fast,” she explained of The 1975. “That used to be part of my process, this spontaneous, instinctual thing.”

The “Speed Drive” musician continued: “Being around [the band], I have definitely adapted to the idea of sitting on songs, re-working things, playing them to friends, going back and forth, kind of living with the songs a bit more. So that is one way that my process has been perfected.”
