“I did not need to see” – NFL fans slam NBC for close-up shot of Matthew Stafford’s gruesome injury on live TV as Rams QB ‘rips up’ hand vs Lions

NBC has been slammed by NFL fans for showing a close-up of Los Angeles Rams star Matthew Stafford’s gruesome hand injury during the Wild Card loss to the Detroit Lions.

The Rams quarterback suffered a nasty cut on his throwing hand after banging it on Lions defensive tackle Alim McNeil’s helmet in the second quarter of the NFL playoffs clash.

The hit left a huge gash on Stafford’s hand in between his index and middle fingers.

And NBC kept showing a close-up shot of the injury with TV viewers able to see athletic trainers cleaning up the wound.

They could also watch how the Rams star was wiping up his hand with a bloodied towel.

The view of Stafford’s busted hand left many NFL fans disgusted.

“NBC camera was so close on Matt Stafford’s bloody hand that I saw platelets,” one wrote.

“Oh that close-up of Stafford’s hand was nasty,” another added.

“I didn’t need to see a close-up of Stafford’s hand,” a third said.

“I did not need to see Stafford’s hand injury up close, especially considering I just got a new, sharper TV,” one wrote.

Others lauded Stafford for playing at a high level despite hurting his throwing hand earlier in the game.

“Matthew Stafford is balling despite his ripped-up hand. He’s tough,” one wrote.

And another added: “Stafford with a busted hand is DEALING. These throws are GOLD.”

Stafford threw lasers throughout the clash, allowing the Rams to turn things around following the Lions’ strong first quarter.

After Detriot went 14-3 up, the two-time Pro Bowler connected with Puka Nacua and Tutu Atwell on 50-yard and 38-yard touchdowns, respectively, to make it 21-17 before halftime.

The quarterback completed 25 of his 36 pass attempts for 357 yards during the game.

However, the Lions ended up beating the Rams 24-23 to secure their first playoff win since 1991.

Stafford also had to be checked for a concussion after taking a hard hit in the second half in a rough night for the star quarterback in his return to Detroit.
