Jennifer Lopez has been keeping busy in and out of the gym. In February 2024, she dropped her first album in a decade, This Is Me…Now, along with her musical film, This Is Me… Now: A Love Story. Now, she’s got a new movie called Atlas that’s about to drop on Netflix (and is set to co-chair the 2024 Met Gala this May), proving it’s nearly impossible to slow her down.
At 54, Jennifer Lopez is showing no signs of slowing down, whether it’s her thriving career or her intense workout regimen. With glimpses of her gym sessions frequently shared on Instagram, it’s clear that her fitness routine is a force to be reckoned with. If you don’t have the time to comb through her feed, here’s a roundup of the key insights she’s shared about her workouts. And fair warning: her ab workout is not for the faint of heart!
1.She’s All About The Abs

J.Lo doesn’t mess around when it comes to core strength. Her typical ab workout starts with a set of 50 hanging ab raises, 50 rope crunches, and 50 incline sit ups with a 45-pound plate, her trainer told O, the Oprah Magazine in 2019. The operative word here is starts… Here’s the Jennifer Lopez abs workout in its entirety.
Set 1: 50 hanging ab raises. 50 rope crunches. 50 incline sit-ups with a 45 pound plate.
Set 2 : Everything from the first set but with 35 reps.
Set 3: Same thing, but with 21 reps this time.
2.J.Lo Enjoys Full-Body Circuit Training

In March 2024, J.Lo shared a video on Instagram of herself completing a full-body workout outdoors, and it appeared surprisingly manageable. The video showcased her performing eight exercises aimed at targeting her arms, legs, and core, using only a set of dumbbells and a yoga mat.
Throughout the circuit, she executed lateral raises, squat presses, lunges, bicep curls, and reverse crunches with apparent ease, demonstrating her prowess in fitness like the seasoned pro she is.
3 She Likes To Focus On The ‘Three Bs’ During Workouts

Before a performance on her It’s My Party tour in 2019, J.Lo posted an IG Story of her pre-show prep workout. There, she noted three muscle groups in particular she likes to focus on during workouts: biceps, back, and booty. Not a bad trio, TBH.
4 J.Lo Doesn’t Do Rest Days

Consistency is paramount for Jennifer when it comes to maintaining strength, endurance, and yes, those enviable abs. She disclosed to Us Weekly in 2015 that she “very rarely skips a workout.” Five years later, she reiterated her commitment to fitness, sharing with the publication that she enjoys breaking a sweat “first thing in the morning,” regardless of the day. “I try to make good choices and balance my time,” she added.
David Kirsch, one of her trainers, corroborated this dedication, telling People in 2017, “She’s gifted with an incredible amount of physical energy, but also this beautiful amount of mental and emotional energy. She’s very connected to her body, and she’s got crazy discipline.”
5 She Works Out For Her Mental Health

J.Lo doesn’t just work out for the physical gains—she appreciates the mental ones, too. “Sometimes when I get home and I’m not feeling so great, I make myself go to the gym,” J.Lo told Redbook in 2010. “Then I come home…and I feel pepped up and great about myself.” Endorphins are real, y’all.

J.Lo finds solace and joy in returning to her roots in dance, often using it as a means to elevate her mood. In a 2016 interview with HELLO!, she expressed her conviction that working out contributes significantly to her happiness. “Dance has always been a huge part of my life,” she shared.
She elaborated, emphasizing the profound effect dance has on her well-being: “There’s something about seeing what my body is capable of and feeling the endorphin rush that comes with a good dance session that really helps boost my confidence and my mood.” Despite her multifaceted career, she still identifies strongly with her dance background, affirming, “I still consider myself a dancer at heart, and I love it.”
7 She’s A Fan Of Pole Workouts

J.Lo played a stripper-turned-extortionist in Hustlers, and the experience made her have more respect for people who pole dance.”It’s, like, acrobatic, it’s a different muscle group,” she said on Jimmy Kimmel. “And the things that they do with their legs and everything and go upside down…it’s hard.” Because of the physical demands, she says: “I have a lot of respect for people who do the pole.”
8J.Lo Always Has Goals

J.Lo’s dedication to her fitness regimen shines through in her commitment to staying accountable, even amidst her hectic schedule. A glimpse into her mindset can be found in an Instagram post from 2018. “Feeling like superwoman after the show tonight!” she wrote, reflecting on her performance. Despite the demanding nature of her schedule—15 shows in 27 days—she made a promise to herself: “Instead of letting it wear me down I would be even stronger at the end of it…I will work out and be in the best shape of my life.”
This post underscores J.Lo’s unwavering determination and resilience. She approaches her workouts with the same level of dedication as her professional endeavors, embodying a mindset of strength and perseverance.

J.Lo puts her full self into her workouts, one of her trainers—the famous Tracy Anderson, to be clear—says. “I do an upper body warmup with her,” Tracy told People in 2016. “We do two songs without weights, and then we add three-pound weights, and sometimes I add a song with five-pound weights as well.”
10 Jennifer Prioritizes Sleep

Lack of sleep doesn’t help anyone, and that’s a fact that J.Lo is well aware of. “The number one tip is to always get enough sleep,” she told InStyle, per Grazia. “I can’t stress this enough. Ideally I would love to get nine or 10 hours of sleep, but either way, I always make sure I get at least eight.”
That dedication to her sleep schedule was brought on by a bad experience. “There was a time in my life where I used to sleep three to five hours a night,” she said in a 2022 newsletter, per Us Weekly. But one day, she said she felt “frozen” from all of the work, stress, and lack of sleep. “I thought I was losing my mind,” she added. “Now I know it was a classic panic attack brought on by exhaustion.”
11 She’s Into Fitness Apps

When she’s away from her home gym and personal trainers, Jennifer does what anyone with a smartphone does when they want to work out: She uses a fitness app. Specifically, she’s shouted out the Fitplan app, touting its ability to motivate her.

During her engagement to baseball player Alex Rodriguez, Jennifer Lopez and her then-fiancé were avid fans of TrueFusion, a fitness regimen that combines elements of hot yoga and boot camp. Rodriguez enthusiastically shared his endorsement of the workout, telling People in 2018, “It’s the best workout I’ve ever had in my entire life.”
15.She Knows Her Preferred Routine

Jennifer doesn’t kid herself about her workouts. “You got to work out, you got to watch what you eat,” she told Us Weekly in 2014. “It’s a job—you’ve got to buckle down.”
