Hip Hop has evolved from bootleg parties at 1520 Sedgwick Avenue in the Bronx to the biggest genre in the world. But often times, people forget to honor its predecessors.
In an attempt to do so, Offset sparked a Twitter debate after he reminded his followers where Hip Hop started.
“Sorry but hip hop is black culture,” he wrote. “don’t speak or give game if u don’t have black culture duh.”

When Offset’s initial tweet appeared to cause some confusion, he attempted to clear up his comments.
“Don’t make rules on what goes in hip hop when u don’t know the history,” he added. “it’s pain music story music we the biggest genre in the world off our struggle and hustle yesssir proud of my people that’s all of u mad than sorry but no sorry took a lot for us to get here but we here!!!!”

Naturally, Twitter was divided on the Migos rapper’s sentiments. Par for the course, people quickly threw in their two cents.
Some delivered a few low blows, stating Iggy Azalea could out-rap Offset’s wife Cardi B and Eminem could easily smoke Offset. Some also accused Offset of hating, but others were more understanding and conceded to his point.
Check out some of the reactions below.
eminem out rapped you and iggy can rap circles around your wife head , let’s be real

I understand where he's coming from when he speaks about black culture. Just like Q-tip from Tribe said: " You can be white and blue but don't crap the roll". Music alone is universal. However, the different types of music such hip hop and rap have there beginnings in the black

That’s like saying country is white culture yet got @LilNasX topping charts in that genre. No genre has a race but many contributions have been white just saying from starters of def jam to the beastie boys just saying!

At its core, yes. it’s a very inclusive culture when it comes to other cultures, ethnicities and groups. no other genre is a deeply diverse, but yeh at its core. it’s black culture, that should never be forgotten. People try to down play our contributions in the name of diversity

To be perfectly honest, the art of Hip-hop doesn't even exist anymore. We don't have Mic Controllers anymore. The format of today is talking about what you have, what you're going to do, and how many federal reserve notes they have collected. The punchlines needs work

Hip hop is pure art! it has no face no color yes it was sculpted by people of color like you Nd me in the beginning. now it's evolved. Why you gotta bring that kind of hate in the world man.

— Atlas Telamon (@iamtelamon1) December 3, 2019
He’s not saying you can’t be white and make hip hop music, he’s saying you have to have a respect and understanding for the culture! Doesn’t matter the race!

Hip hop was started by Black people in the late 70s 80s. He does have a point. Let’s see how many “casual hip hop fans” get mad at this post ?

White people love hip hop but hate the reality of it..when we make songs about our up bringing and what we experienced , they say we’re promoting violence or influencing it..when in reality it’s the other way around that’s why it’s our culture because only we understand

Facts and that’s why hip hop will be trademarked now !! If white ppl would have created hip hop we blacks would not be able to use it for FREE. It’s time we trademark everything we invent slang, dances, everything
