It was announced that the hitmaker would be performing Lift Me Up at the upcoming 95th Academy Awards last month.

The singer’s hit track debuted in October of last year and marked the first time that she released any solo material in six years.

The song served as the lead single from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’s soundtrack album and acted as a tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman.

Lift Me Up was met with mixed critical reception from reviewers, although it was a smash hit with listeners and peaked at the number two spot on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Songwriter Tems spoke about working on the track in a press release and expressed via InStyle that she was happy to have been able to collaborate with Rihanna.

‘Rihanna has been an inspiration to me so hearing her convey this song is a great honor,’ she stated.

The musician went on to elaborate on the song’s themes and what she tried to achieve with the project.

‘I wanted to write something that portrays a warm embrace from all the people that I’ve lost in my life. I tried to imagine what it would feel like if I could sing to them now and express how much I miss them,’ she said.
