Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty lingerie company will pay $1.2 million to settle a lawsuit that alleged the brand defrauded customers.
According to reports, Savage X Fenty was accused of violating California law and automatically enrolling customers in a program with recurring charges. As you may already know, Rihanna, born Robyn Rihanna Fenty, debuted her lingerie line in 2018, offering a wide range of sizes and promoting body positivity.

Reportedly, Savage X Fenty was sued by the counties of Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Los Angeles, and San Diego, plus the city of Santa Monica, for violating California law and misleading customers by automatically enlisting them in a “VIP” program that had recurring credit card charges.
Jennifer Deng, Santa Clara County deputy district attorney shared,
“Consumers have a right to know up front what they are paying for and how often. Businesses have a duty to be transparent about their automatic renewal charges.”
The lawsuit reportedly claimed that customers would fraudulently be enrolled in an automatic recurring paid VIP membership when they made purchases on Savage X Fenty’s website, resulting in credit card charges that would continue until the membership was canceled.
According to the complaint, the company’s actions “were likely to deceive members of the public and were performed with that intent.” Reports claim that Savage X Fenty failed to get customers’ consent, clearly disclose the conditions of its auto-renewal program, or provide a simple online mechanism for stopping the charges.

In addition, the suit claimed customers were misled into believing that shop credit earned through VIP membership could be used at any time. However, reports state that it could only be used for purchases costing more than the value of the credit.
The Santa Clara District Attorney’s Office reportedly said Savage X Fenty cooperated with the county government’s investigation and modified its website, automatic renewal alerts, store credit, and advertising methods.
Under the settlement, Savage X Fenty will pay a $1 million fine, plus $50,000 to pay back state investigative fees and $150,000 in restitution to former or current VIP members in California.
