Did Selena Gomez Shade Kanye West At The ‘Grammys’?

Selena Gomez News - Us Weekly

Selena Gomez’s reaction to Kanye West’s name at the Grammys made her stance on the artist very clear without saying much.

Selena Gomez is one of the biggest pop stars in the world, with three studio albums under her belt, which have sold over 15 million units while her current singles tally stands at 30 million worldwide. The Texas native rose to fame in 2002 when she landed a starring role on Barney & Friends, where she would go on to meet her then-BFF Demi Lovato.

She later found herself fronting her very own series on Disney Channel, titled Wizards of Waverly Place, which ran from 2007 to 2012 before her music career became Gomez’s main priority. And it’s fair to say she’s been incredibly successful in this field too.

Though the 29-year-old has released countless hits over the years, including Hands To Myself, Good For You, Same Old Love, and The Heart Wants What It Wants, Gomez has yet to scoop a Grammy award for her work, though many believe she’ll earn one of the prestigious gongs sooner than later.

The Ice Cream hitmaker has attended the awards ceremony on multiple occasions over the years, but during her red carpet appearance in 2016, Gomez caused quite the controversy after appearing to shade Kanye West in an interview. Here’s the lowdown…

To date, Gomez has released a whopping three albums as a solo artist and another three records with the Scene, an American band she initially started her music career with back in 2009.

All three of her albums skyrocketed to the top spot on Billboard’s Hot 200, with her most recent body of work, Rare, earning a gold plaque for sales upwards of 600,000 copies in the U.S. alone.

The record featured a string of catchy songs, including Look At Her Now, Fetish, Bad Liar, and Lose You To Love Me, which became Gomez’s first No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100.

It’s been two years since the album’s release and fans have been eagerly waiting for news concerning the singer’s next project, and it seems as if new music could be on the way sooner than people would have expected.

In February 2022, eagle-eyed fans spotted Gomez wearing a pink and red beaded bracelet that read “SG3,” which many assumed was in correlation with the possibility that a new album could already be in the works.

It wasn’t long before fans got the hashtag #SG3IsComing trending on Twitter, convinced that the bracelet was indirectly letting everybody know that production of her next album was well underway.

In late 2021, while promoting her Hulu show Only Murders in the Building, Gomez confirmed that she’d been working on new material in the studio and that she was very much in the process of putting together her fourth body of work, though she wasn’t sure when the project would be released.

“I’m starting to work on a new album right now so I’m really excited and have so much to say,” she said. “I’m very lucky … because I love doing what I do and I wouldn’t be able to do it if it weren’t for amazing people … and those who are fans. So, I’m very happy to be a part of all of the things I can do.”

What Did Selena Say About Kanye At The Grammys?

Gomez graced the 2016 Grammy Awards alongside her close friend Taylor Swift, striking poses on the red carpet in their stunning and glittering gowns. Despite not feeling her best, Gomez conducted several interviews, expressing her determination to attend the prestigious event.

During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, one correspondent expressed his admiration for Gomez’s song “Hands To Myself,” prompting her to sing a few lines. However, another correspondent jokingly suggested that Gomez should make a grand entrance onto the Grammy stage “Kanye style” and perform her hit song. Gomez’s response was less than enthusiastic; she scrunched her face in disagreement, playfully stuck out her tongue, and shook her head in disapproval.

After noticing Gomez’s reaction, the correspondent quickly added, “You’re like, ‘no, forget that,'” acknowledging her lack of amusement with the light-hearted joke.

The video of this interaction has sparked speculation among some people, suggesting that Gomez may not hold favorable feelings towards Kanye West due to her reaction on the red carpet.
