Lily Allen isn’t holding back when it comes to sharing her honest opinion about Beyoncé‘s new country album … slamming the chart-topper for trying too hard.

During Wednesday’s episode of her “Miss Me?” podcast, Lily Allen discussed “Cowboy Carter” and focused on Beyoncé’s cover of Dolly Parton’s “Jolene.” Lily, alongside her cohost Miquita Oliver, expressed their thoughts on Beyoncé’s decision to reinterpret such a legendary song. Lily, who is married to David Harbour, described it as a “weird” choice to remake the iconic track.

As she put it, “I just feel like it’s quite an interesting thing to do when you’re like trying to tackle a new genre and you just choose the biggest song in that genre to cover. I mean, you do you, Beyoncé, and she literally is doing her. Or is she doing Dolly?”

Lily Allen also criticized the concept of “Cowboy” and perceived the rollout as entirely premeditated. She specifically pointed to Jay-Z’s Grammys speech, where he criticized the Recording Academy for not recognizing Beyoncé in the Album of the Year category. While acknowledging Beyoncé’s attempt to target the country market after facing backlash at the 2016 CMA Awards, Lily felt that the entire campaign seemed “quite calculated.”

As if that wasn’t enough to get the Hive buzzing … Lily dared to bring up Bey’s look, somewhat shadily remarking, “I’m just saying that like, you know, she’s got a great team of stylists, hair people, you know, she works out a lot. I’m sure she’s got the access to the best trainers in the world.”

Chris Young expressed his admiration for Beyoncé’s new album, “Cowboy Carter,” particularly praising Dolly Parton’s introduction on the new rendition of “Jolene.” He sees Beyoncé’s foray into the country scene as evidence that the industry is now more accepting than ever before. Additionally, Young extended an invitation for Beyoncé to join him in the studio, indicating a willingness among country music artists to collaborate across genres.Showing off some of that southern hospitality, Chris says … “Tell [Beyoncé] I’m here for her.”

And, Chris isn’t the only country bigwig giving “Cowboy Carter” a stamp of approval.

Shooter Jennings, the son of legends Waylon Jennings and Jessi Colter, tells TMZ … Bey’s album is a sign mainstream audiences are ready to embrace country music fully.

He explains … “Country music is literally the biggest thing in music right now and I think Beyoncé cutting a country album is our generation’s ‘Urban Cowboy’ moment when popular culture embraces country during a time of profound national popularity.”

Shooter thinks it’s a good thing for Bey to acknowledge her love of country music — despite her hearing some boos at the 2016 CMA Awards.

Remember, the Grammy winner said this album was a response to that unpleasant experience — enlisting the likes of Dolly, Willie Nelson and Miley Cyrus to help bring it to life.
